I now realize this may not be the right category but...
I finally figured out my odometer is not working correctly. It indicates 3,371 then 3,372 and 3,373, then it falls back to 3,371, and repeats the process. I think the car has about 4,000 miles on it now, judging by the miles until service function. If I report this to the dealer, it will flag the mileage of the car as being unknown. Now I wonder what that will that do to my re-sale value. It will be a negative, for sure but, how negative?
I plan to keep the car but if I am forced to sell it for what ever reason this will impact the value.
If I were looking at purchasing a used car and the mileage was known to be incorrect I would expect a discount. In these days of car fax and such, it will be made known. I hate to take a hit for something that is not my fault. When something is my fault I "man up" but this is different. This might be a legal problem, I think. I would appreciate your best advice. Thanks
