I would like to take a look at car. I am located outside of Philadelphia in Warminster, Pa. ED ekreibick@verizon.net

99.5 Jetta IV
138,000 miles.
Manual Trans
Within the last 5K miles the following was done.
New Kumo tires. New Bilestin struts. new lower control arms and ball joints.
new springs front (sits level now).
Some kind of New HD radio with input for ipod (radio fits nice).
Just completed Oil, filter, Air filter, Fuel filter.
around 10K miles ago I put a new turbo vacuum actuator on it.
AC works good.
No rust, but has a couple chips and small dents (rock from mower?)
Blue with black interior. Manual window cranks (no electric to go bad)
Might burn 1 Qt of oil every oil change.

Supposedly when I bought it the dealer (Lancaster diesel VW dealer) put new timing belt, cleaned intake, new water pump at 118,000 miles.
I paid $6K 4 years ago because of the reputation of dealer and I knew the car had been gone over mechanically .

Problems:
Glove box Hinge broken on RS, but still works and stays closed.
Remote trunk release does not work.

After I changed to oil today I drove up the street. Stopped at sign, made a RT, shifted into 2nd gear (low RPM) and it quit.
Towed it home, timing belt broke. I pushed it out of garage and have not checked it out any further.

I don't have the money to throw at it now. How much should I ask?
SE PA.

(And I thought I was going to have the afternoon off; The Wife and I were going to go test drive a 2012 Passat.)

Right now it's raining it's a$$ off, so later I will go out and take pictures, then post a link.

I have to talk by my VW mechanic friend to come up with a value. I do know I just dropped $1200 in tires, suspension, filters etc. Since I am a retired mechanic I do all the labor :(.

FOR SALE, 2002 Jetta GLS, 5 speed
remember, you will never get what you put into it back. the tires, suspension, filters, etc are all used now so don't expect to sell them as new. it's broken, good for parts or as a fixer-upper only.

Pictures look good. I am about an hour away. I am also retired, but work Tuesday thru Thursday, otherwise available. A broken timing belt can cause some serious internal damage. Let me know if you come up with a price. ED ekreibick@verizon.net

You might just have a good car for this project.

If you are looking at buying a new Passat, some TDIClub members can point you to an EXCELLENT source for a very good price.

Edit: also New rear calipers, pads, hardware and rotors within 10K miles. Front measure almost new.
Just had 4 wheel spin balance Friday afternoon.

I forgot how much people love these cars, thanks for the interest and response through online and PM's.

I need to think about this and decide weather to sell it as is, or fix it then sell it. But I am pretty sure it's going to go. I will know in a couple weeks.

Another dealer timing belt job bites the dust.
