The other day my check engine light came on, and this is what VAG-COMM reported:

Reading around suggests that "Air Leak(s) after Mass Air Flow Sensor (G70)" is a possible cause.

How much "after" is "after"?

For instance, I noticed that the tube from the intercooler to the thingamajig (intake manifold?) was loose and crooked, like it had been put in wrong:

I removed and properly (I think) fastened the hose, but it's still kinda loose: (but not crooked)

Could this have caused the error?

If that pic is what you initially found, then yes. Check the lower hose on the intercooler as well. This lower hose is what caused my P0101. I replaced both hoses due to worn down barbs.

Huh.. I think we have a winner.
After re-seating the hose I went to go to work; about 300m down the road I heard a "POP!" and it started to run like crap.
Went home and found this:

So.. that's not right. I guess it was lucky it didn't pop out earlier.
Is it smart to replace the clip too?
Or is this sufficient: (Upper Intercooler to EGR Hose Collar Fix Kit)

I'm glad you posted this with the title you had, and the solution really quickly... Because SO many people have condemned the MAF with codes like this and bought new ones.

I really hope it actually fixes the problem, and there aren't *two* problems!

The kit showed up yesterday late (and it was 31° and raining) so I haven't installed it yet.

The kit also came with four steel washers that aren't shown on the web page and there's no instructions as to where they might go. Make up for longer bolts? Protect the bracket from the bolt heads? Put in the kit by accident?

I called IDParts and was told they'd look at the ones in the warehouse to see if I got a funny kit or if the kit had changed. Haven't heard back yet.

That was quick...

I just talked to them, the extra washers are simply spacers because some people found the bolts are too long; they bottom out.

A followup:

The car ran fine and didn't throw a code (didn't light up the CEL) for 60+ miles, so I'm inclined to think the problem is solved.

However, two weird things about the kit:

1) it looks like the spacers are too short: The bracket is bent, but the hose is (as best as I can tell) bottomed out in the EGR:

Not only that, the bolts seem *way* longer than they need to be:

which makes me wonder if the washers are supposed to go between the clamp and the spacer to make up for differences in EGR depth.

Make sense?
