I’m currently looking into some advice on where to go to rebuild my 5spd transmission.
I have three currently.
(Can be in any of these states MD, OH, NJ, PA, DE, WV, VA)

One is currently in my car and it has been through a lot. Cracked corner and 3rd is a tad chunky. A hand full of people learned on her + never has been rebuilt.
In regards to the others one is an ALH the other is a BEW. I’ve been told that the only thing that is different is the bell housing in them.

I’m just trying to find a reputable mechanic that can rebuild my spare and put in a bigger 5th gear. Or even better discuss options to potentially actually getting a 6th gear.

I hope you can find somebody good and reasonably priced because one day I would love to add a Wave trac and a 6th speed !

Bellhousing is identical in the BEW and ALH. Both 02J. Slightly different gearing on the BEW, but just barely. There are also 2 different versions of the BEW trans - early and late (split is late 04). Different differentials installed in the newer ones. The ARP ring gear bolts fit everything up to the early BEWs - not the later (even though most applications list through 06).

Shipping them out to @Matt-98AHU might be an option? He's also been building 6sp from newer more readily available units.

In Harford County these days, have you checked New German Performance in Perryman? Have seen them but never stopped.

When mine broke, I swapped to the O2M 6-speed and put a peloquin diff in it( with help)
But it came from Europe in 2 days with all the stuff to convert it.. seems it was 1600 bucks back then...

Let us know what you come up with
