A friend keeps bugging me to put one in my 318ti. With the variety of gear ratios and plenty of room I would think it would be a good swap.

Plus there are good options for LSD's for them. 318ti isn't exactly the lightest hatchback though. 2675 lbs, and the seats are waaaaaay lighter than VW-anything, so removing them doesn't drop much weight. But the drive wheels are at the proper end, and it's a German car, solidly built. If you do the swap I'd love to follow the build thread.

for that matter you could just do a caterham and it would save you a couple lbs more. :p

like i said before though, i dont know this greg fella so if its "anything goes" just to break his record then its been done, and its irrelevant.

if your trying to beat him with a mk4 that changes things again.

something about 2 equivalent power plants, one being RWD doesnt seem to be a relevant race either,

For that matter, I think it's got to be done with a New Beetle for a "victory" to mean anything.

Maybe at some point I'd consider doing that with another 318ti, but for right now I've just been thinking about turbocharging the M3 3.0L that's in there. It would be an easy 5-600hp....though definitely not the mileage.
