13.45 is laughable for a stripped out Beetle with N20.

Makes me feel good about 14.2 with a 3500# curb weight.

i havnt followed it real close but a stripped out 2200lb car and a 1722 (200-210) should probably be capable of running 12's

and if you dont think 2200 is possible in a mk4 your thinking wrong.
with my back seat in and full interior including ac, ps, egr, stereo, spare etc etc was 2700 on the scales...

back seat and spare 2550
ac, ps, washer fluid, egr, cat, muffler 2470?
rest of interior?
glass (lexan)
wheels (rpf1 in 16 saves you probably 50 lbs total.)
aluminum crash bars
airbags
55 convenience feature worth of wiring
battery? who needs more than a 10lb braile at the strip that save you 40lbs there?

the car could probably come down to 2200lbs without much thought which puts you in the low 13s with just the "basic" 200hp setup...

i mean theres isnt much you do need if the only goal is to hit break 12.00 (which will take quite a bit more power i understand)

Alot of the problem with the jettas is just getting the power to the ground.

yeah i can see that. wheelie bars would solve that.

as odd as it sounds, fwd with wheelie bars, but if you lengthen your effective wheelbase, you drastically cut down on weight transfer.

gutted out, skinnys and slicks with a wheelie bar...
sounds ridiculous but alot of honda guys do it when their having massive traction issues.

then again this is all about 1/4 miles time-slips isnt it?

Yup, I'm a freelance editor and photographer and cover many diesel events and I like to see the TDIs there at truck events and I shoot pics of them when I see them. I ran coverage of the 2011 TDIFest in Diesel World magazine and I will likely be covering the TS Outlaw event for the mag once again this year. If there are TDIs running down the track I'll be shooting them!!!

Do a longitudinal RWD conversion with a Porsche 924 torque tube/trans, or even 944 turbo, It'll still be a Jetta/Golf

Nope, I did not make it down to that event. I had some major health issues in 2011 and nearly died...therefore, I missed a lot of the events. I'm doing better and will be covering a lot more events this year.

I like the ideas of a RWD TDI too... I really like that little kit car and could love to build one of those!

I'm also thinking about putting a Duramax engine in my '67 Camaro! Not that will be a fun to drive diesel and I will probably be able to get 35 MPG or maybe even better out on the highway!!!
