Looking to beat Greg Hogue

Im kinda sick of seeing Greg Hogue and his ugly Beetle. They guy annoys me just like how he annoyed everyone on this site.
I have an 02 Jetta ALH with a 6 speed in it. The motor gets pulled tomorrow to get a full build.
At this point I plan on port polished head, cam, 12mm pump, GTB2260vk, and nitrous.

My goal for this car is to lay the smack down on Greg Hogue and his dumb Beetle.

Will this setup be enough you think? Or should i have a different game plan?

Hey Mitch :). Long time no see stranger! The 2260vk with a B5 passat manifold and adapter plate will be the easiest way to mount the setup. Don't forget some ARP headstuds. So far the stock HG with studs is holding in the twin turbo motor with a couple 50+psi runs with no issues so you should be ok as long as you drop CR.

Run some Rosten rods and 17:1CR crafter pistons (Bora Parts has them and will make you a package deal). It probably wouldn't be bad idea to add one of my girdles to make sure the bottom end stays together. Since this is to beat Greggles, I'm sure we can work out a deal ;).

For nozzles, I'm going to be testing some 5x12 and 5x13 nozzles shortly on the dyno in the twin turbo tdi I've been working on for a while. Should be enough fuel for 300whp with a 12mm. Don't forget a lift pump.

Run a SBC full feramic disk and SS pressure plate with one of their 30lb SMF's. That'll hold up to drag racing and anything you'll dish out. You'll also need a limited slip unless you want to pick up bits of spider gears off the launch pad haha.

You should have no trouble laying the smack on Greg with that setup :D.

Funny because Jeremy and I were just discussing this guy.... then I found a pic of him reducing the compression of his pistons :eek::eek::eek:

Actually he has a large custom turbo (not based on the 17)....and a wild cam. He uses diamond pistons, so no need to reduce compression ratio...he was deepening the valve reliefs for the wicked high lift cam.

His fastest time is a 13.45 at 101mph
Im trying to poke at him to bring it to TS Outlaw race in Bowling Green, KY May 18th.

He keeps posting pics of his new driver on Facebook and how hes going to be the fastest 2.0 in the world... what a joke.

That chick in the blond is not the one racing the Bug. The one thats racing has dark hair and is much younger.

haha greg just keeping young girls around for the eye candy? And here I thought the older generation (my dad's age) did pin ups on the walls of the garage? Apparently they've upgraded to real life versions? rofl.

His threads were always interesting, they always snow balled.

Regardless of the bug's weight, it's got the aerodynamics of a barn wall..... he shouldn't be that tough to beat.

He SHOULDNT be able too.... but i still have to beat him, this is something i cant loose. I wanna put him in his place infront of a large crowd. Best part is if its at TS thats a very large Competitiondiesel.com crowd. So it would kinda make it more interesting.

Not where you are at right now. Folks are pulling 13's with that kinda setup. Go with Matt's suggestions but if Greg is serious about 11's, youch....

Look at andy2's thread regarding his compound setup and see what he's needed without NOS. He's got other posts you'll need to look at too, the info is spread out.

If you want to go that fast (11-12 seconds) then you're really going to have to start putting some thought into the chassis setup. The obvious being that you'll want slicks, but stock suspension is way too soft. You might want to raise the back up a bit in comparison to the front to aid in weight transfer. There is a lot more to it.

Otherwise, it would be nice to have a few more details about your competition. I would suggest twins, but if you aren't building the bottom end then that would probably be a waste of time. We've made a little over 300hp on a BKD with the GTB2260VK (though I would think this would be more difficult on an ALH), so maybe it will be enough for your goals.

i already have a fully adjustable suspention where i can drop it 4 inchs and raise it 2 i believe. i know i need slicks and all that.
i will be building the bottom end for sure! im not worried about suspention b/c i have all that covered. my question is, will this motor setup take down "The Great Greg Hogue" haha

He seems to have a knack at building motors that don't stay together very long so you may be able to beat him with a stock car.
Isn't the young blonde his niece or something?
