Hey everyone, I am from a Montreal Suburb in Quebec and, well if anyone say my thread in the TDI101... I just lost my MK5 Jetta.
I am planning on getting a B5.5 Passat Wagon TDI, I found one which seems very interesting and worth investing in.
Basically most 10-15 year old cars in Montreal Quebec area often destroyed. Either severe rust and often blown shocks, bad bushings... weak suspension due to our crap roads and super salted winters.
Anyways, this model is hard to find in my area and found a pretty nice one in Ontario that I can get for 2000$ CAD. Spoke to the owner and I am very interested in picking it, registering it in Ontario, Bringing it over to my Mechanic so he can change the timing belt and fix anything that needs to be fixed to then pass inspection so I can register it with a Quebec plate.
Previous owner told me the car didn't need much work besides frequent oil changes and new brakes. He also has not done the timing belt in the 150 000km / 5 years of ownership... He said he did a lot of long road trips with it... My biggest worry is the timing belt risk to drive it 5 hours... but I think the risk is minimal.
My other goal is to eventually find a VW Specialized guy in my area who can do the Manual Swap... either 5 speed FWD or if my budget permits in 1 to 2 years of ownership, 6 speed AWD Swap... And yes I know it would be very expensive but as long as the body is clean and the car is mechanically in tip top shape... I think such an "investment" is worth it as I am not a fan of newer cars. I enjoy older mechanical and manual cars and I feel this model is perfect for my use for years to come.
So, asking for opinions, what do you guys think of this?
(Besides the colorblind people tasteless interior trims and coloured seat)
