Hello All

I hope I am posting in the right area.

I was curious if anyone can direct me to a good shop/mechanic in Cleveland , Ohio who understands mods to the TDI engine. I work with a shop now who is very good but doesn't like to go past OEM type work.

In the next few days I will have to replace my turbo. Ordered a vnt 17 for the 2001 Jetta 5 spd. in the near furure I will be adding injectors and then either a TB or a chip. I understand there are many things that will need to be adjusted to accomodate the new mods and I would like to work with someone who understands all the variables and who also has the VAG -Com.

I appreciate all your input.

Michael

I just got my tdi today. I live on the west side of cleveland. what is the shop you deal with in case i ever need anything. they are probbaly cheaper than dealership for oil changes and such. I wont start doing my own oil changes until warranty is up so i dont void the warranty by not having it documented...thanks

You can do your own oil changes and not void your warranty. You just need to keep receipts. Keep the receipts for the oil and the filter, and I also keep the box top for the filter as proof. Make a note of the date it was changed and the mileage, and you're good to go. VW can't penalize you for doing your own oil changes.

Yeah michaelu I hear ya, I'm in the Columbus area and am looking for the same... I'm tryin to chip my 00 Jetta and am checkin up on P3 Automotive down in centerville (by dayton) to see if they do good work. I have a buddy near youngstown that is a certified VW tech, what kind of work were you wanting?

OH TDI Help

Granted, this really should be under: http://forums.tdiclub.com/forumdisplay.php?f=34

But anyway:

Get in touch with Jon Hamilton! He will take great care of you and your TDI!

I live in Lexington Kentucky and make the drive up to him for the work I've had done. Clutch, Timing Belt (water pump, rollers, tentioner, etc..), Injector change to Sprint 520s, Left Front Wheel Bearing, engine change out (don't get me started on that one...), and more.

Jon lives just west of Columbus OH.

More info found at the http://www.cincitdi.com site.

There are two places that i know of that specialize in german cars. On is the http://www.swedishsolution.com/main.html I know they have been around for a long time as i have been driving past them since 1994 for work. There is another that is up near rockside and aurora rd. i will try and drive by today and get their name. I am not recomending these places but just giving you a heads up on some places to check out as i have never used them yet.

I have used:

Leo Luck's Auto Repair Inc
19985 Detroit Road
Rocky River, OH 44116

I have always had reasonable prices and very good quality work. They specialize in German autos. I have, however, never asked to perform anything that wasn't stock.....yet. ;)

I have used Swedish Solution for work when I had a SAAB. They are good people, but not cheap, and my sense is they are not strong on performance mods.

I took my TDI to Euro Car Service (ecstuning.com) to have my SPEC clutch installed. They are big on performance stuff, but I don't know how strong they are on TDIs in particular.

Where are they located and how did the clutch turn out?

ECS is in Norton, just west of Akron. I picked up a SPEC stage 1 from an on-line vendor, and had ECS install. I needed a clutch upgrade because my Upsolute chip caused cold-weather clutch slip. I have been happy with the SPEC. There was some grabbiness in the let-off under low RPM launches, but that eventually went away.

What place do you use for more standard stuff? I'm looking for a place in Cleveland to replace my turbo.

Well, I called ECS today and they no longer perform labor. This was as of Monday 4/10. They sell parts though.

German Auto, which used to be near rockside/aurora, has moved to Peninsula, near the route 8/303 intersection. The tech there (George) has 25+ years of working with diesel mercedes cars in Germany and here at MB dealers (formerly the shop manager at bedford mb). While I'm not sure they do a lot of vw work, replacing a turbo is simple..most of you could easily do it yourself...they are pretty much bolt on items with an oil line.. the swedish connection is just that - they do saabs and volvos...not sure I'd take a vw there.

Swedish Solution has been doing VW work for several years now, but I have not used them, even though I could walk there.
