Looking for Real MPG for 2013 Beetle TDI

Looking to purchase my 4th diesel beetle 98', 2002, 2006, 2013 maybe? Every 3 years or so I upgrade to a new model. This time I've waited longer from 2006 to 20013. Each time the fuel economy has gone down a little bit. From the looks of the advertised number it is much worse. Why is this? Is it true? Are there owners with real numbers yet? Is there a section on the forum that talks about this?

Not many on there. But, it should perform about the same as all the 2011+ TDIs. Budget for 35mpg and be pleased with 40-45mpg depending on your trans and driving habits and conditions.

Why does it keep going down? Emmisions restrictions and power, both increasing.

I think the ratings for the Jetta and the Beetle are the same. Don't know if that's a valid comparison. The current numbers are in my sig. I must be getting better at driving it, or it's breaking in nicely, (or both) because it's been getting better with every tank. That's in mountainous terrain and winter temps.

Thanks for the input! The window sticker only calls for 28 mpg in city on manual trans. That just sounds horrible. The bigger problem is how can the Passat which is larger do so much better?

Tank after tank I've been getting 44-45mpg.

I don't do much city driving, and TDI's aren't really ment for city driving. >20 mile trips are where your MPG shine.
