I have a line on a 2012 Golf 6 speed manual w/101k. I plan on doing the timing belt, EGR/DPF delete as the dieselgate warranty is probably expired and a tune.
Coming from the MK4 world, what are the common problems that I should look at during a pre-buy inspection? what are the common items that needed to be addressed during your ownership?

Of course the DPF is the number 1 issue. Timing belt of course. Definitely do the transmission service (I like redline mt-lv best ). The only gotcha is really the CP4 fuel pump can be finicky and if it goes it's an expensive fix. I put a CP3 in all 4 of my TDIs. Do the clutch when it's time (south bend makes a great daily driver). That's really it and you can get hundreds of thousands of miles out of it!

I am currently at 86k miles on my 2012 Golf TDI. Once it gets past 100k I'd like to delete the dieselgate alterations. Is it difficult? I have a lift. How about the timing belt? I just finished the routine 40k transmission service along with every other fluid/filter. Not bad, though dash warning lights had me alarmed until they went out after a short drive. My CEL is now on after 8 miles of driving. Not sure why. It has me a bit worried because I'm headed out for a 300 mile drive tomorrow.

If you're located in a smog check area, the most you can do is restore your ecu to the original factory tune. Unless you want to uninstall and reinstall the dpf & cat every 2 years.
