I'm in the market for a set of wheels for my 04 Jetta TDI and I was wondering if anyone has ever bought any of the 17" Longbeach replica wheels off Ebay http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/17-7-VW-Beetle-Golf-Jetta-Passat-wheels-rims_W0QQitemZ290157289181QQihZ019QQcategoryZ43957QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
and if so, what was the quailty of them.

Seems like the OEM VW Longbeach wheels are tough to find and when you do find anyone that has them, they want a premium price or they've been curbed badly.

$400 for these doesn't seem too bad if they're built well and don't weigh 28-30lbs each.

A quick search at Vortex got 11 hits on "longbeach" in the 5x100 wheels/tires classifieds. They shouldn't be too hard to find as they're a pretty common take-off for most of the Vortex crowd.

As for replicas, I had a set of Longbeach replicas for a couple of years and they were decent. You couldn't tell the difference between the reps and OEM except for the lack of a VW stamp on the inside. I bought mine new from Formula Distributors and they came out to about $1600 CDN with tires and including taxes and shipping. Keep in mind this was 5 years ago or so.

I have been thinking about it. It says in the add made on the OE machines. Hard to verify, but...

If they are made in China, do they send a free lead test kit? :D

I have a set of replica wheels on my car but I will be taking them off in the near future and putting on a set of real deal Montreal II wheels on. I have a pretty good set sitting in the garage, I'll have them powered coated.

The things I don't like about my replica wheels... they weigh more than the real deal. The paint finish on them doesn't last, they are etched and so they always look dirty even after I steam clean them. Uses aftermarket lug bolts, the ones that came with the wheels rust and the lug bolt caps don't fit very snug on them, thus I keep loosing the cap. The center caps are flat, not curved like the real deal and the screened "VW" logo flakes off.

These wheels are manufactured in a original equipment plant to original specification.
That is a bit of an open ended statement. Which OE plant? BBS? Ronel? Not for nothing, if these are made by an OE plant to OE specs, then would they still be replica wheels?

IMHO, get the real deal and find some kid trading out his factory rims for something stupid shiney.
