Scott,

that was my wife's suggestion! Well close: A lobster clamped on to the back of a NB....

Here is the other thing to think about: Do you want the logo to be meaningful to the club with respect to the location, or do you want the Fest logo to be an add for the club? I would really like to put a big old VW circle symbol on one of the sails... I think that would be cool... BUT I doubt we could get permission to use it...

I'll dig around and see if I can't find a good Car/lobster image... hmmm a lobster hanging on the tail pipe with a thought bubble "Smells Like a DIESEL"

Hey Geoff, I seem to recall seeing a pic of a NB with a big@ss lobster on the roof used as an ad for a seafood place, Hmmm... I'll see if I can find it among my vast NB connections /images/graemlins/grin.gif

Last night Chris was working on sketch of a lobster with a TDI badge on the tail. A rear view with him turning aroung and winking at you. Doesn't have to be a lobster, any crustacean, mix and match... whatever.
I know we have some really creative people out there. I can come up with some ideas but can't draw to save my life.

My main idea is get something automotive mixed into whatever New England theme we use. Again just my opinions.

Here is my first draft. I know it's got too many colors, but those 4 pictures in the corners (lobster, clam, lighthouse, ship) will be in black and white in the next draft. Any suggestion will be appreciated.

(what the hell? Is GeWilli posting another G.D. logo idea?)

Yup this time with a distorted (for the legal department) VW logo on the top flag!!!

Just wanted to reply to wingnut's suggestions:
I do not recommend the crab. It is more associated (in my mind at least) with the Chesapeake area.
"Maryland is for Crabs"....and other disagreeable b@$tards! /images/graemlins/wink.gif
I'm fine with any of the other suggestions. I especially like the Golf with masts and sails per GeWilli, and the lighthouse/Massachussetts combinations are good too.
Is the quahog more associated with Rhode Island?

excellent work so far, guys!

i'd have to say that my favorite so far has been this one, though the color needs to be made solid.

whadda ya mean 'solid'?

Want the coast line cleaned up? All in black?

should a car logo be put in there? Maybe a NB or something related to the VW?

Maybe wrap the VW logo around the lighthouse (go with the distortion to avoid trademark?)

Now if we were having the Fest in Groton or New London .... it might work ...

and old ironsides? Methings the Mayflower is a better New England symbol...

about the lobster... if ya got the original images I'll help clean it up a bit (make it more graphic friendly if ya want)

The lobster looks nice though - on one hand I've gotta pose the question - does the Lobster mean New England? or does it mean Maine... kinda Quahog related...

Also since this is an International Club do 'we' want to use the Stars and Stripes?

Although I think Maine is the state most associated with lobsters, other New England states use it as well. Is there ONE symbol that is strictly N.E. ?
As far as the stars and stripes, didn't last years shirt have the (very /images/graemlins/cool.gif cool) maple leaf?
Maybe we could wrap whichever logo w/ international flags?
I don't think that our first entry will be the winner but every pic tossed in is giving us all more to feed on, hopefully to come up with a great design.

Keep 'em coming !! The more to vote on the merrier /images/graemlins/smile.gif !

Okay Scott /images/graemlins/smirk.gif

this next one is just an idea or two... and yeah... the flag might not be such a bad idea /images/graemlins/wink.gif and with regards to the Lobsta... just asking the question to ina rhetorical sense...

and the flag

"New England" (if needed) and "TDIClub.com" and "TDIFest" can always be added anywhere at a later point...

Ooooh another idea (I can hear the groan across the internet now) /images/graemlins/grin.gif

All the pretty colors are going to get expensive /images/graemlins/grin.gif

But I like it, just the same. I agree with Poet, though. The lighthouse is my favorite.

lobsters scare me.

i have to agree though, this is international. we've got to think of our canadian friends to the north. if we make em mad, they might start tossing all that coin money they've got in their pockets at us. those loonies hurt if you get hit hard enough! /images/graemlins/wink.gif

I think my design is the cleanest, most easily readable design, and it's only 1 color to cut down on printing costs. People only have a few seconds to read a shirt, and TDI Fest 2004 New England jumps right out at you, so much so it's kinda scary! /images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif

I really like this one. If we want to incorporate the VW logo, why not to the bat-thing (remember the beginning of Batman?) and have the light shine toward you so that you can have it flashing the logo? You'd have to adjust the type for "2004 TDIfest" so that they gradually get bigger toward the logo end, but that shouldn't be hard to do. The background is just great.

My $.02 - and thanks for all the entries to consider. I really like a lot of them. (The simpler the better).

I smoothed out the coast . . . added a star for Plymouth and the VW/TDIclub logo

and based on BeetleGo's suggestion:

(i'd also had the same idea - must be a REALLY good one then /images/graemlins/wink.gif /images/graemlins/tongue.gif)

Geoff, having the tdiclub inside the VW logo is getting pretty busy to my eye. Better to have it clearly at the bottom like before.

I'd recommend staying away from the VW logo unless we have official VW support on this one.

Fred,

I was chatting with GaryM about this... I think the flag on the Mayflower/car concept probably will not be a problem with the logo police... mostly beacuse its been altered... the TDIclub in the middle of the VW helps to Identify what the heck the TDIclub is... but also might disrupt the logo just enough to clear the logo cops again... but maybe not...

It would be nice to get VWoA's permission to us the VW trademark, but that has to be up to the commitee IMHO

Geoff, like your latest with the VW /TDI club in the lobster (almost as much as ours /images/graemlins/wink.gif ).
If we go with the lighthouse design shouldn't the star be on Braintree where we are having it?
As for colors, just one? Too plain for me.

Scott,

I tried putting the star close... didn't want the star to be too small... i'm thinking maybe too graphic (well not as graphic and simplistic as lineman /images/graemlins/wink.gif no offense /images/graemlins/laugh.gif )

As for colors... I'd like to stripe/band the light house maybe, or Could use different colors for the words... or add shading to the background...

all these images i have are all in photoshop with layer upon layer... each phrase and each object is separate and can be moved, erased, colored, changed, very easily... sooo if someone like one element in one but not the other... i can even swap back and forth between ... but I can only think of so many my self (well yeah maybe too many)...

for example

the colors can change - i'm just using web colors for this - if someone has a Pantone number to suggest I can add it in there for the final proof...
