What do you make of this?

The MkVI Golf was introduced in 2010 though it was largely a refreshed A5 platform Jetta and Rabbit. It is instantly recognizable by its new front-end and headlights design. This front end is shared by the 2010 and up Sportwagen as well, although it wasn’t until 2011 that the Sportwagen moved its platform up a generation.

the wagon is still a mk5..... it has a bespoke not-mk6-front-end. you cannot infact take a mk6 golf front clip and attach it to the wagon. the A-pillars wont line up among other things.

dont believe me still?
lookup the fender PN's for your wagen then the same year golf. theyre different.

want to go a step further?
buy the mk6 golf fender, and try to put it on your wagon ;)

it wont work! the wagon is not a mk6 golf!

So what exactly do they mean by the platform. I'm a lot more concerned about the wire harness than the fenders at the moment. On those codes that come back immediately after clearing the tpms and steering angle sensor/pwr steering the scanner/reader say no 12 volt available when I try to redo basic settings on them.
So are you saying this https://idpartsblog.com/2014/08/06/what-tdi-do-i-have-jetta-golf-tdi/ is bogus information?

there is no repair manual for the mech unit. if it's busted, you replace it
There's no manual perhaps for rebuild but there are youtubers showing how they repair and/or rebuild mech units. Als o there are remanufactured units for sale on Ebay (mostly from companies in China). Besides mine has lifetime warranty, unlimited miles so I'm not looking to try and repair it. If I have to send it back 10 or 20 times I guess I'll eventually have rebuilt one. Hope that won't be necessary Phewww.
I'm looking at the possibility that some or one of these other fault codes components is causing the mech not to work since they are connected by CAN Bus. I'd prefer to not remove the mech again unless it beyond any reasonable doubt that it is indeed the problem.

There are just too many to list....
Sometimes the horse is smarter than the leader...
If that were the case, the horse would have installed a new M-unit from the dealer long ago and this thread likely wouldn't exist.

And now you want to argue about the fact that your wagon is a facelifted A5, LOL... wow. Good luck with your quest.

Well. If a mech unit is truly remanufactured it is pretty much a new one. Evidently they have not really been remanufacturing mine like promised. I'm not arguing about anything. I was just sharing information to get you're input on what idpartsonline is saying in that article about the A5 Sportwagens being moved up a platform in 2011. If you're offended by contrary evidence then maybe you're just arrogant. Who knows maybe they are wrong. I don't know. I'm calling the dealership today to get to the bottom of this.
