Just curious what the differences are between these two? I've read their online descriptions which seem a little generic when comparing the them?

Two very different oils. One oil meets older oil specs, the other meets some newer specs. There are other differences too...

The oil that meets 505.01 could be used in either of your TDIs, the one that only meets 505.00 could only be used in your older VE TDI.

Ah I see the Top Tec is 505.00 and 505.01 where as the High Tech is only 505.00.
Not true. Maybe it was when you posted this, but they are both now 505.01 approved. The primary difference from what I can see is that High Tech is synthetic blend and Top Tec is full synthetic.
