2009 Jetta 2.0L 6 speed manual
Hi all, I’m quite new to the TDI platform but I’m afraid I have a serious issue with the one I just bought. It’s a 2009 2.0L TDI with a 6 speed manual. It almost has 300k miles on it and there were many dash lights on so I got it for quite cheap.

The current issue I am having is that the cooling fan will not shut off so it completely kills the battery. Only the larger of the two fans was running when I checked though. Also I’m assume this is related somehow is that I think it’s stuck in limp mode. I was driving down the highway about 70mph when I lost power all of a sudden. It has seemingly normal power so I can get started in first gear up to about 2k rpm and the rest of the gears same power until 1.7k rpm even if I floor it. The cruise control also stopped working at this point and when I go up hill I have no power and will slow down to about 40mph after doing 60mph which is now where it tops out at in 6th at 1.7k rpm.

I found a mouse nesting in the engine bay which had chewed through some wiring going towards the turbo. I evicted the mouse and repaired the wires but I don’t know how to reset the dash codes to see which of them were caused by that.

From what I’ve gathered on other threads I might want to check the EGR system? Being new to this I’m kinda scared to dig into that so I’m looking to see if it’s worth it or if I’m looking in the wrong place. Thanks!
