Left fog light turns on when in park*****

I have a 2012 Passat TDI with factory fog lights. For some strange reason when I'm in park with my headlight system in auto position my left side(driver side) fog light turns on. As soon as I put the car in drive it shuts off or if I turn the fog lights on they both light up. Is this a setting or a malfunction? Can someone help me out please and thank you.

P.s. To the idiot trolls that say "do a search or google the issue" don't bother with that b.s. Because I wouldn't have made this thread if I hadn't already...

Are you sure the steering wheel is straight ahead when you put the car in park?

Your attitude just might have discouraged the one person who has the answer you supposedly seek. No, I don't know why your light is on. The previous answer is a distinct possibility though.

If you turn the steering wheel to the right, does the right light turn on instead of the left one?

at under a certain speed...( 35KM/H i believe) the fog-lights will turn on when steering angle sensor hits past a certain angle ~15 degrees- just like on the 1948 tucker, it is by design and has a VW specific name that i cannot for the life of me think of right now...
Edit: our 13 SEL also will do it on in park...

It lights up the way when you are turning around corners- the fog lamps are used as turning lamps. Mine only works when the headlight switch is full on I think, not sure if this happens when using the automatic setting and its dark enough to turn the full headlights on.

Big Worm, so did you determine if this is the normal "cornering light" function or if it's a problem of some sort?

^ Yes. It only happens when the steering wheel is turned. I originally thought it was a parking light that I didn't know how to turn off because my Mercedes E500 has that feature.

Thank you guys for helping me out. It saved me some time from bringing it to my mechanic for such a stupid thing. TDI club has awesome helpful members, great site...

For my 2012 Trendline+ TDI - its typically the right fog light which is on when parking/parked....
