Does anyone know if it's possible to install LED daytime running lights on the 2011 Jetta TDI? I'd like to get something similar to the Audi A4 lights.
Thanks

LED DRL options

I too have been looking for some audi day time running lights for the 2011 Jetta TDI.

The only thing I have found so far is a universal LED strip that you can install in the groove between your headlight cassing and front bumper. They also say you could install in your headlight. Not sure if this would look tacky or not. But here is the link to the site.

http://www.carid.com/2010-volkswagen-jetta-lighting/headlight-kit-92558.html

I also saw in another discussion that someone had replaced the stock DRL bulb with an LED bulb but that caused an alert on the dashboard since the car thinks the bulb has died. LED lights draw less power than standard bulbs and so the electrical system thinks the light is out or dying. Not sure if there is a way around this unless you get some sort of conversion kit like the HID headlight conversion kit which converts the voltage going to the bulb for higher output. I just bought this so will see how that goes.

Headlight type is H7 for the 2011.

Can you post pictures once you do the install. I wanted to do a proper HID projector but i was told its not nessasary for the 2011 Jetta bc the reflector already has a sharp cut off so it will not blind the incoming traffic.

As for the LED's i think it would look tacky. i'm looking for a something similar to this but it would need to have only 2 sides and not 5 so it could fit the front.

Also once you change the peanut bulb in the highbeam then you are set!

the car is too new for the aftermarket to be making product for.

Plus dissection of the lights = cutting them apart.

have you considered:

in particular, the ones with the CAN-BUS circuitry?

Don't know how much truth there is in this, but is sounds like the Jetta R is going to have LED DRL's. If this holds true, maybe they'll be a direct fit???

Hey Red Sox,
I'm not familiar with the Jetta R. What model is this and when will it be out?
I haven't found anything yet that looks similial to the A4's lights.
Still looking.

I'm not sure about the Audi style, I've seen a few around town and they go out quickly (cheap wiring/LED's). If you want an LED DRL bulb then these have been bought, tried (by a member of VWVortex) and don't cause the "bulb out" error code.

hope this helps.

Completely false.

HIDs in a 2011 Reflector housing are a mess and don't work.

I know that some Acura models and Volvo (I know 2004-07 V70R) had HID bulbs in reflector housing but had a special bulb. Something like a D2R bulb which blocks light coming from top of bulb I think. I wonder if something like this could work in a reflector housing. A D2S style bulb would be for a projector. Not sure if any of this is relevant or could be used and I don't know how the reflector of an Acura or Volvo with HIDs differs from a Halogen reflector. All I know is that Xenon light waves travel differently than halogen light waves. It's all due to the filament in a HID being long ways versus a filament in a Halogen being the across the width ofthe bulb.

I kinda wish that the new GLI would come with Bi-Xenon projectors like the MKV that might be able to be a bolt on and a change in VCDS.

I went with a stock hid color nothing crazy like the rice burners that run 1000k bulbs. I understand the light pattern will be crazy but all my cars have hids and this one has to have it.
So basically F everyone on the road cause you have to have HIDs- Nice.

HIDs at 4300K-5000K put off the most lumens. Anything above that lowers the lumens output. Try to find a tall vertical surface, it might shock you at how much glare the lights give off.

I was stupid once and did HIDs in a reflector housing. No one ever flashed their lights at me, but being followed by my own car there was a ton of glare. This wasn't on the Jetta.

Yeah thats why the op deleted his pictures, well that and SPV.

The HIDs in the reflector housings are fine, the two pictures compared nothing, absolutely no accuracy, they where not at equal distance nor exposure. We dont have to go through the "I know more then you know" argument again. Its very simple "to each their own", no one here lives in the same state, hell not even the same country. I have yet to be flashed, fallowed, flipped off, pulled over, nothing.

Furthermore, I have been in multiple cars head on with mine to compare glare, my findings are worthless because I wont document them to a T for disrespectful individuals, like most here that feel they need to speak on subjects they no experience on.

HIDs in the only option headlight housing available to us is not a permanent solution, but it is not blinding or disrespectful either.

You guys need to give the "Self Proclaimed Expert" a rest and if there is nothing nice or constructing to say, just stfu and let us modify OUR cars as we see fit.

No one on here is claiming to be an expert, we pointed you to info from the experts, yet somehow you continue to believe you know more then they do.

I leave for a month, and your still singing the same ole tune. Give it a rest. You and all your VW for life friends are so jet set on the notion that you guys cant be wrong. Call it what it really is, tdi club experts pointed me in the direction of other cars to make their point, and while I value your opinion, I find it odd that you cant just respect others? Calling others hacks because you dont agree with what they have done? Seems childish to me.

TwoTone, how is your Mk6 JTDI running? (see what i did there)

It has became very clear that TDI club is a dictatorship, band of brothers if you will, that have no interest in accepting the new age of TDI owners. Well that is unless we all invest in low resistance tires, and cleaver diesel stickers.

No one is asking for you guys to agree with the way we choose to mod OUR cars, hell I don't even want your help or input. However personal respect and knowing when to just skip over a thread when you find it hard to say something nice, would be greatly appreciated.

FWIW, alot of inconsiderate people have slapped a set of HID's into a reflector housings. See it all the time. I can only roll my eyes so often and I gave up flashing the high beams at "you types" since it won't change a damn thing. You know what the lighting rules are and could care less about the rules or about other drivers.

As for your "few words of wisdom" let me share a few with you. You agreed to the terms of use of this website. You then ignored them (sound familiar) and received a time out. You apparently learned nothing and continue to blame others for your own self imposed ignorance (one can only roll their eyes so many times at "you types").

Don't have one, but don't need to to read the threads. Recently bought a Subie to replace the 05.5, but I read here daily to continue to get a feel for any issues that might come up and how VW handles them because I'll be replacing my SUV soon.

If VW get their heads out of you know where, I might pick up a newer one.
