Leaky tandem fuel pump? Video included!

Hey TDI community.

I’ve been lurking on the forums for a while. Super helpful resource. I’m in Oakland, CA, the mechanic I’ve used in the past charges the same as the dealer and I really don’t like their attitude, they’d rather it be a Porsche. So I’ve been trying to diagnose this leaky fuel pump I have.

I think I need to buy a rebuilt pump and swap it out?

That is your injection pump, the tandem pump is for a PD, beginning 2004 in North America.
You have 2 (really 3) choices, replace it or replace the seal(s). New pump or rebuild yours at DFIS in Oregon, expensive, best solution, Find a gently used one, always risky. Fix the seals, some have success, others not. The thing is not a home friendly rebuild.
