The Mrs. and I are trying to relocate ourselves to the Denver/Colorado Springs area. We're finally to the point that if I could find a job out there then we'd be set. Anyone know of anyone hiring engineers (systems/software/hardware/integration) out there?

After our honeymoon to Alaska we are sooo ready to get out of Floridia

Not quite what I had in mind but thanks!

Ideally I'd be looking for something in the software/embedded development area but I have a very diverse engineering background and an uncanny ability to learn technical things quickly.

Now I'm hungry for a yummy toasted sub...

Be careful about the area. There were a lot of tech companies that folded in the are in the recent years. Gateway's layoffs left a lot of technically saavy personnel floating around in the Denver, Co Springs, Pueblo area. I almost took a transfer to Fort Carson on the south end of Co Springs, but decided not to because if my contract stopped I would have been S.O.L. At least my company paid for me to spend two weeks there training the guy they brought in. I would try a couple of things. USAA has their MSTRO (mid states regional office) there, The Army has Fort Carson, Air Force has Cheyenne Mountain (Would you like to play a game...), Air Force Academy, etc...

Good Luck!

Why are you relocating? Did Mickey make you upset? Or did the humidity at the happiest pace on earth finally do you in?

My degree is in Computer Engineering specifically, but I like working in the software/hardware interfacing. I've spent a lot of time performing system development, Integration & Test of automated electronic test systems for the Navy.

Actually I work for Lockheed Martin right now devolping test programs that verify functionality of military aircraft electronic systems down to specific component failures (i.e. bad chips, amps, capacitors, resistors, diodes, etc.). I have been trying to transfer out to our Space Systems division there in Littleton but it seems like all of LM out there works on programs requiring a security clearance which I don't have and the backlog puts me at least a year away for one

In the mean time I've been looking outside the company for work out that way... I suppose worst case I could sell VWs out there

Seagate is hiring right now. Longmont... 30 miles north of Denver. test code is a hot area right now. Hard Disc Drive industry is a hard mother though. I write software for manufacturing equipment. It pays the bills.

If you haven't hit jobs.progressive.com, try it... they've just opened a new facility here in Colorado Springs and have just broken ground for a new data center. If you've got any C# experience or .Net, so much the better!

They have several job fairs and plenty of conferences (especially space and systems) in the greater COLO SPGS area. Be advised of the extremely high military presence if you're shying away for personal reasons. In fact, many professionals in the area are ex- or retired military and they pride themselves on their community. Denver is much more liberal in that respect. Why not consider being a professor at CU or one of the many technical colleges around the area?

My main reason for not working with the military is that I have been doing that for several years now and if I leave Lockheed I'd rather go commercial for a while... Kind of a career growth opportunity. I have nothing against them as my father and brother are/were both military lifers. I'd be in it myself except I couldn't pass the physical

Interesting idea being a prof but I'm not sure if I'm quite qualified yet

None, yet
I'm new to the board, looking at buying a TDI, but was just browsing. Decided to register when I wanted to reply to this post.

EchoStar (Dish Network) is always hiring software engineers for the Inverness Denver Tech Center area. Since their website is hard to navigate, here's the direct link to list of jobs. http://www.dishnetwork.com/content/aboutus/careers/index.asp

I currently am an intern through them during the summer, and they're a decent company.

Hey guys,

Thanks for all the help but after talking to many employers I have decided to stay here in O-Town for another few years. When I came beck from Denver last Sunday my wife surprised me with the news that we'll be having a little eluwak! With that in mind we feel it's best to stay near our friends and families.
