knocking sound

so i noticed today a quite aggressive knocking. its loud. i mean not overly but it can be easily heard. it sounds like its from the centran engine, or the back of the engine around the middle of it.

its fast, speed dependant but at 60/70 its VERY fast, stops when applying the brakes, accelerating or turning. present when maintaining a steady speed/coasting with clutch pedal down.

theres a secondary knocking, it'll knock once when you accelerate, and again when slowing, like something moving back and forward depending on if your speeding up/slowing down, might be related to above knocking.

im hoping this is going to be a simple fix, however the car also has torque steer, pulls right when accelerating, left when letting off the clutch. more predominant at higher speed, 50+ slightly noticeable at lower speeds. might be related to previous mentioned knocking sounds.

any ideas on where and what i should be looking at to narrow these down?

Definitely check all ball joints, tie, rod ends, and engine mounts. The dog bone mount, I would especially look at that on the bottom of the engine it connects to the center subframe.

There are just too many to list....
Compliance bushings on the control arms will cause noises and shifts changing when on or off brakes or power, and cause torque steer and changes to the position of the steering wheel.

so jack up one side at the front, remove the wheel, and just give each of these a jiggle to look for movement, then do same on other side?

If you get under the car, you can see the CV boots with a flashlight

I will check it all over and return with updates. I been busy getting the head unit fully wired in, one more accessory to go and that's a reverse camera but buying one integrated into the reg plate light mount in a couple of weeks. Gotta focus these mechanical issues first. There are a couple of other issues I will need help with though. Thank you for the help so far!

ok so i jacked up the car, one side at a time, i pushed the top while pulling the bottom and vice versa, to see if there is any wiggle that way, both wheels are solid, drivers side is the same when doing the same at 3 and 6 o clock possitions, but the passenger side wiggles a little when doing that.

couldnt really get under the car to check the dogbone. and honestly, engine mounts not sure what im looking for there (help? lol)

edit: i did notice the rubber sleeves that cover the shaft of the shocks arent down to the lower section, so i should probably sort that out.

i bought a 2013 specifically because it DIDNT have a backup camera. they can be nice for hitching up, not that i would ever put a hitch on a car, but they turn a ****ty driver into an even ****tier driver imo... i see so many people relying solely on their cameras who seem to need an entire football field just to back their subaru into a normal parking spot it makes me cringe, rant over sorry.

i dont typically use them for actually reversing, its more of a "is anything behind the car" aid, such as a child playing hide and seek thats crouching. the head unit also has the support for one so might as well make use of it. but no, i dont rely on reverse cameras.

most my work vehicles have been box trucks so ive gotten pretty good at hoping for the best, i also have no kids nearby so its less concerning but my new work van has one and i dont trust it one bit, computers fail, mirrors dont....

it doesnt hurt to have one there and its a project car so why not. i need to go out when a mate turns up and try checking the engine mounts by having him stand to the side with the bonnet open while i put it in gear and see if the engine moves while the cars stationary.

so there is alot of play in the engine, when its being started up and shut down the engine moves a considerable amount, when keeping the brake on, putting it in gear and coming up to bite point the engine also moves alot.

so time for new engine mounts? if so, recommendations?

There is a transmission mount as well under the battery tray. You will probably notice that the RH engine mount is collapsed and resting on the bottom of the mount. The rubber sagged over time.

It's the manual variant, that flags up a list of parts that all look different to each other though.

I'm also guessing the bad mounts will be the cause of the torque steer as the wheels are pretty solid with no movement on drivers side and only minimal horizontal play (like less than 1/4 inch) in passenger side

Subplot for a movie: Driver has a clear empty driveway in his back-up cam, proceeds to park, runs over something, young mother screams in horror, neon green ball bounces out of the picture, he gets out, cant believe there's a dead toddler. Evil A.I. had airbrushed the kid out of the video.

ever see the video going around where they suspend a mini shopping cart infront of the camera? the driver keeps getting out to check for it only to find no cart, hop back in and it appears again once in reverse.

No, but that sounds like another hack designed to trick the driver out of the car, so they can jump in and steal it.

The ÜRO PARTS 1K0199555M is the one I would get. It will have four mounting holes to the body and two to the transmission.

Yeah forgot about RH drive. Those mounts linked look correct, I didn’t know if everything underneath the hood is swapped or just the dash.

Don't think so from checking out some videos. I'll get them ordered, go to my mates garage and get them installed in next week or so I hope. With any luck the knocking and torque steer will be corrected. Then all I gotta do is track down this wind noise (sound like a big ass fan blowing wind over the car) and get this check engine light and emissions garage message checked.

Then I can start looking at mods, big turbo, exhaust, alternator, cold air intake, intercooler and up to a stage 2/3 tune lol

I'm not sure how worn engine mounts could be the sole cause of torque steer. That's not to say they are or aren't worn though. I didn't see a mileage listed.
I'd get another look at all of the steering/suspension components, including the cv's, which you most certainly didn't if you didn't make it under the vehicle.
