Why won't both of my key fobs work for keyless entry? One of them works and when I try to program a second one, it will activate but then the first key fob will quit working. This isn't normal is it?

How are you programming the two fobs?

Put another way, if using VCDS, are you setting the number of fobs to "0" first? :) :)

I put one fob in the ignition and turn key ON engine OFF, and shut the door. I then insert the spare into the door and hold it in the lock position for 10 sec and then push one of the buttons of the fob and within 2 sec push the same button again. I believe that was on a youtube video. Not using VCDS, also where do I buy one of those? I see a lot of options but I don't know which one are trustworthy. Thanks!

Yeah, sometimes the training method doesn't seem to work... at least for me... and the only solution I've found is to code them from scratch with VCDS.

Perhaps you can find someone locally who will help you with this... otherwise, yes, the web site is the best place to find an authentic version. The clones generally have a specific version stamped on the case... and are generally selling for less than $150.00. :)

That said, for what you want, a cheaper cable and the $99.99 version of VCDS-Lite downloadable from Ross-Tech should meet your needs... I believe it will do remote fob pairing.

I'm all for getting the cheaper cable but I want to be able to check timing and do other things that you can do with a VCDS. Should I get the $200 one? Need opinions

Ross-Tech's site is the best and most accurate source for what versions do what... the rest of us might steer you wrong! :)

you have 4 remotes programmed so the car only overwrites the last slot. There is a way of erasing all of them (push lock 5x or something, will have to look it up), then can program both, one at a time.
