I called VW pickering and VW town and country in markham

both said around $80-$85 + tax.
At Pickering VW, speak to John Gooderham who is the Parts Manager, ask him for the PL10 discount, which works out to be 10%-20% off that they give to shops etc. I've asked and got this discount on parts before on multiple occasions.

So i brought my car into PVW and service says they cannot program my fob which is a OEM fob. only diff is the blade which i puchased from the ebay source porvided in another thread with cuts you a replacement key blade via a jpeg. the blade works fine and the fob locks and unlocks my car but the dealer is trying to tell me that there system will not communicate with with the fob to reprogram the emo. because the key does not have the HAA markings on it

i don't see how having a key with the HAA marking or a aftermarket key without those markings makes a difference as it is just a piece of metal.

any ideas.

MJhandy..was yours a HAA replacement blade?

Key blade does not matter one bit, it's the transponder chip. It has to be virgin (or pre-coded to your car, depending on the year).

I'll do a writeup of how these systems work through the different years in the next couple of days, hopefully it will help dispel some myths and help some people save $$

My came from the dealer. Had the private dealer we bought the vehicle buy it, since the second key was for a different VW.

Ok.. So does that mean my fob cannot be programmed to my car because it was precoded to another car? . Ot can the dealership do it.. But the techs jusy didnt know how?

To use that fob you must open it up (not easy but doable, best way is to knock the pin inside, pry it open) then pull off the coil that's at the front and glue a virgin id48 chip on the board then program it. The catch is that the dealer likely won't be able to precode it to your car as most order keys from the distribution centre already cut and precoded. Even if they have the capability I highly doubt they would know what to do if they cited the HAA on the keyblade as the issue....

If you want to come downtown (have to arrange a time) I can help you out.

The remote can be reused with no problems so if it's just for a spare can use it in conjunction with your valet key, but not ideal. The remote can be programmed with vcds

If you bought a used FOB, then it probably won't work. On the newer (2002+) cars, once the RF chip has been programmed to a car, it cannot be reprogrammed to another car. You need a virgin fob, or get the RF chip and swap it yourself if you can find one.

The transponder is the long black rectangle at the pointy end of the board, unlike the glass 'pill' in the older cars.

Desolder that grey rectangle and silicone a new glass chip in its place then it can be reused. I've done a bunch already
