Normally when the key is turned off and the radio is on it will remain on until the key is removed from the ignition switch.

Now it stays on and will only turn off by using the button on the radio.

Also at the same time this happened the key fob stopped working.

I may have pushed buttons on the fob with it in the switch (off) with the radio on, did this sequence change system functions or was it a coincidence ?
I am replacing the fob batteries for giggles.

I have vagcom so if there is a magic formula to fix this I need the keystroke walkthrough.

Try replacing battery in key fob. I dont think there is a sequence you can change behaviour of radio by pressing fob buttons. Likely inside an ignition barrel there is a "switch" which allows power for certain appliances like radio, after engine shut down but key still inserted. Possible your one is stuck.
Have you been taking care of your locks by lubricanting them with some WD 40? Maybe that's all you need to fix it. Do you hear a loud mechanical "click" when key is removed?
