Key fob for MK6

Had my key stolen a week ago and looking into options to replace it. Dealer wants $180 for the key cut in Germany to match my VIN + $54 to pair it with my car. Is it possible to buy used key (off ebay) and have it programmed to match my car. I know it is not a problem with older cars, but i was told late MK6 are different, I have 2014 Jetta. Also where can I cut blank key? Dealer wouldn't do that.

From what I've read, these new cars seem to be a dealer only thing for now.

My dad's 2010 Jetta is sorta in the same boat. Seems we need to get the key from the dealer :-(

$54 to pair it is quite reasonable. But there should be no problem sourcing your own key and having a locksmith with a sidewinder key cutter copy your original. That can probably be done for around $80. The question is, will the dealer still honour the $54 quote for programming if you don't buy it from them?

The bigger question is, who stole the key and should you consider rekeying your car instead of just getting a new key. Reprogramming a new key should render the old one useless for starting your car, but they can still gain entry and steal stuff.

Have you considered calling Pop A Lock, They have quite a few locations in Ontario and will replace factory keys on site for a fraction of the price.

Find a good Lock man , and make sure he will DELETE STOLEK KEy from immo and Re-Lear all current remote you have., so no other KEY can open / start your car
otherwise your stolen KEY will be a valid key

So far dealer offers lowest price, other places are $300+, too bad they are not wiling to program used remote from ebay.
