I do find it interesting that they stated VW/Audi may offer special purchase and trade in incentives to TDI owners as long as its not portrayed as a condition of the settlement. The purchase incentives I understand, but what of this trade in wording? Does this mean they can do the buyback as a trade in, giving many of us tax credit (in states that refund some back)?

I am waiting for this, if fair, I will order a Alltrack S 6speed for next spring.

Just got 3 packets in the mail today. Interesting fact here. I assume they are using some sort of old registration info or dealer records if you bought or had serviced at one. Here is why I think that. A list of my cars

2011 Golf TDI- bought new from VW dealer Aug 2011, sold Feb 2015.
2012 Passat TDI- bought new from VW dealer Nov 2011, sold Aug 2014
2011 Golf TDI- bought from individual March 2016 still own
2014 Jetta TDI- bought from Toyota Dealer Aug 2016 still own

Did have some work done on the 2nd 2011 Golf done at the dealer right after I bought it earlier this year. This is the reason for my conclusion. No way they already knew about my recent purchase. So they even sent me one on the car I sold way back in 2014.

Extremely likely. Rotary pump TDIs were sold here in far lower numbers than the common rail cars, and parts for 17 year old MKIV TDIs are as available as ever. Only now are parts for A3 and B4 TDIs (now nearly 20 years old) disappearing. Even if a high percentage of the CR cars are shipped offshore or destroyed, there will be more of them left here than the earlier cars.

One might argue that VW's repair support for TDIs has never been strong. If it was companies like IDParts would not exist. But I don't think it'll get worse.

More than likely they could offer an additional rebate roughly equal to the tax savings if you complete both transactions on the same day. They can't accept the trade but they can offer the savings.

My packet just came yesterday. Of course, my car was most likely totaled when another driver fell asleep and hit my parked car at my house, and it happened during the donut hole, so if it ends up totaled, I get nothing. You don't want to total it between June 26 and Sept 18, 2016.

Send an objection letter

Hey there, just got my legal packet today! Ugh! I want to urge all Diesel owners to file an objection letter regarding the mileage adjustment!!!
We all purchased the diesel for the great mileage, most of us driving far more than the allowed 12,500 miles per year. Do the math; if you drive 25 miles one way to work then that is 13,000 miles per year alone, not including your leisure travel. Taking the diesel on a 1000 mile trek for a fuel cost $60 bucks or less.
They advertised these models for those of us who drive! See page 22, section 57 for how to file an objection. Get online and find a sample template for filing a response that they will pay attention to.
Let you voice be heard and then maybe we can convince the courts to be fair. We paid a premium for these vehicles and we all drove them as we had planned. We bought them for the fuel savings and the 40+ mpg advertised.
I urge you to write an objection right away!! Objections must be filed by Sept. 16th....

I don't know how many miles you have on your car but the mileage adjustment seems fair to me. Your car has carted you around for many miles by now. Try selling in on the open market and see what you'll get for it. My 2013 Jetta has almost 20k miles on it. When I turn it in to VW in the next few months or so it'll still be nearly new. I have no kids to tear up the insides and seldom have a passenger other than my 14yo rat terrier and he's blind and never chews on anything. Supposing that your car is the same year as mine with over 100k miles and VW resell these cars in another market - which one do you think will net them more money?

I keep reading about how some of you have all but driven the wheels off your cars yet expect the same settlement as low mileage cars. Don't you get it? Some of you have all but used your car up yet you expect MSRP or more for them. Not trying to start a ****storm - I just don't 'get' the logic.

Just got my settlement package, 2 of them mailed to me; others reporting also getting extra copies of the paperwork.

Completed the online registration, created my account and I have opted for the buyback which emailed me immediately with the Nov 1 Buyback date.

November is a long way to go.

No way I could turn down that kind of cash on a car with over 140,000 miles.

Some are still pissed though.

The bigger question for me is the replacement vehicle. Lots of research and test drives ahead.

Totally agree that this mailing was beyond stupid and wasteful, since everything in it and much more was available online. But I don't think owner or seller registration had anything to do with the mailing. The purpose of it was to get the word out to all past and current owners of record. There are people out there who haven't even heard of the scandal. And it may help keep USPS alive for another year.

How do you know which car they are for? We got 5 across 2 JSW but none of them said anything about what car they were for. The cover letter just mentioned something generic about 2.0 TDI cars that we have/might have etc.

The online registration is one way they are getting addresses in order to mail them out! 2 of our 5 were in my first name, which is what I used online. 2 in the wife's name (she was first of both names on the title/purchase paperwork and with the loan on 1 of them from VW credit [other we bought straight out]) and one with my middle name, which I use and which I bought the cars with and probably came from the dealership as that is the name I use in their service department.

I have yet to get anything at all for my A3. I've had recent dealer service, completed the initial registration on the settlement website, registered for the goodwill package, etc. You'd think that would be higher up on the radar.

What I found interesting was that they were both dated the 16th of August.

I received one on the 14th and one on the 16th.

Has volkswagen solved that niggly little problem of time travel?
