- interesting to me (we're going with the modifcation):

payments to be made within 3 banking days

10-yr or 150,000-mile warranty on affected modified components (no real specifics or details)

18-month warranty with a 're-offer' buyback if there's a problem with the tdi after the modification (minus any monies received)

loaner if warranty work takes longer than three hours

Just got the packet as well, after the October deadline it looks like the program starts immediately- no delay. Great news.

I'll be interested to see if the early production TDI's get the same notice. I seriously doubt it. The fix is very complicated. Probably won't be done at all.

Are you saying that they now have an approved fix/mod for the EA288 in your 2015 Tdi Golf? I have a 2015 Passat and from what I can tell, we are still waiting on an approved fix/mod to be announced for this model.

Just got mine. For '15s like my Passat, will be a two stepper. First step approval expected in Oct. The submittal for approval for step 2 is scheduled for 15 Aug 17.

I'm planning on having the fix done at a dealer where my buddy works. I find the section 39 in chapter 1 interesting. It says that if an approved modification is not found by May 1, 2018 then you can take the buyback or do nothing. But if you do nothing and a fix is found after the 1st you don't get any money. How much do you want to bet VW drags its feet on the Gen 1 fix and until June '18 so they get off the hook for paying out to those of us who plan on keeping their gen 1 cars.

I was under the impression that under the proposed settlement, despite getting the fix done, you still had the option to sell back the car to VW if you are not satisfied with the fix.

Reading from the post above, it appears that buyback after a fix may only apply if there is a problem with the fix.

Can someone clarify?

Nothing in my mail, today. Are the packets arriving just for those opting for mod, at this point?

Negative. The letter in the package basically is introducing the program. It does not reflect anything the owner has done to this point. It really is for the owners who have living under a rock.

Negative. It's a lemon law-like provision. If your car's stuck in the shop too much for repairs related to the fix, then you can sell the car back. It's not a general "if you aren't satisfied" out.

Agree. I received one today. Sold my '12 Golf 15 months ago. Despite me forwarding info from VW to the new owner, I guess he didn't let them know he now owns it. I obviously haven't registered on the site. This just appears to be information (probably court-ordered) to inform all customers about what may be coming.

I had registered my Passat online already because I sold it after sept 15 and before June of 16. Today I received the packet telling me to fill it out or register online. I thought I had already done that online. Does anyone know if I need to fill out this eligible seller paper form out in addition to the online form I did last month?

I got around to going through the mailing, and there's nothing I found in there -nothing- that wasn't already available online, and discussed extensively in this forum.

Again.....nothing.

As I said above, this mailing is only to get the word to owners or sellers who have been under a rock for a year. There is nothing new here. More importantly there is nothing which contradicts the info available on line. Lots of trees killed and money wasted on postage.

What do you all think about the likelihood that VW will support repairs and maintenance on diesels 10+ years from now?

I think it's very likely but also not something to be concerned about. There will be plenty of aftermarket mechanics willing and able to service your TDI. Many of us here already drive 20 year old TDIs. I haven't ever taken mine to a dealership except to get a quote (and the couple times I did the managed to break something in the interior).

Well, my Magic 8-ball is broken, but the closest thing I can compare it to is the support on our other car, a 13 year old SAAB 9-5 wagon. SAAB went out of existence 8 years ago when GM shut that division down, and we have had NO problems in the interim getting parts or people to work on it. Now at 186K and going strong......

How many Saab "dealerships" are still around willing to fix it under warranty? You rolling into you you local Cadillac dealer asking for warranty work?

There will always be small time local experts willing to work on specific cars.

The difference is that if cars are fixed, VW dealers are on the hook fixing 15 year cars that may have 250K+ miles on their dime.

I think you are reading the warranty part of the settlement wrong.

If you pay attention when you go to dealerships, you will notice that they still work on 40+year old cars. VW, BMW, and Mercedes tend to keep making parts for their cars. Just the other day, I went to the dealer to buy a coolant expansion tank hose for my 2000 Z3 Coupe. I can still buy 90% of the parts through the dealership if I choose.

So, in 2 years , I cash take the cash (in my case $5100), get the 'fix", drive it for another 18 months and still get my same value? Or will they put a different value on the car for the "re-offer"?

I believe you can only take the buyback after taking the fix if you've had documented issues with the fix (a la lemon law)

In the packet, the fix option doesn't call out the hpfp and turbo in the items listed. I guess I need to find the latest actual (still prelim) doc for the definition of the "Approved Emissions Modification Warranty"

.
Class members who choose an Approved Emissions Modification will receive disclosures about the effects of the mod on performance and durability, an extended emissions warranty, and a Lemon Law-type remedy to protect against the possibility of the mod causing subsequent problems.

Yes, the court-approved document does specify $1,529.005!!!! It occurs 3 times.

That's $1,529 + 1/2 cent!!!!!! Will they round the 1/2 cent up to a whole cent, or truncate it to zero??

I do find it interesting that they stated VW/Audi may offer special purchase and trade in incentives to TDI owners as long as its not portrayed as a condition of the settlement. The purchase incentives I understand, but what of this trade in wording? Does this mean they can do the buyback as a trade in, giving many of us tax credit (in states that refund some back)?

As I stated, there have been no SAAB dealerships for over 8 years....but I didn't take warranty work as the subject matter to which I was responding, only the availability of parts and service. The former SAAB dealer (now Chevy only) still has its SAAB mechanics working there, and there has never been an issue with parts availability. We're trying to give more service work to a local shop we've used for a long time for tires, etc., and the jobs they've done have turned out very well also.
And we are looking at a car the numbers of which are very small compared to VW, so I'm assuming the VW specialty shops are more numerous, and for the same reason parts availability will be no concern for quite a number of years.
