TDI longevity questions come up from time to time and there are several threads on the topic. Here's a variation on the topic....After a conversation I had with a friend of mine where we accounted for all miles logged in every car we've owned in our lives, that got me thinking about how many of those miles I've logged were in DIESEL vehicles.

Here are my stats:
558k total miles in gassers.
706k total miles in DIESEL vehicles, including but not limited to TDIs.
----------------------------------------
Grand total 1264k miles driven in my lifetime to date.

The numbers show I've logged more miles in DIESEL vehicles than gassers. All of the diesel miles have been logged since getting my first diesel in 2002 (02 Golf TDI).

OK, so how many miles have you driven in your lifetime? Of those miles, how many miles were logged in DIESEL vehicles (not limited to TDIs)?

I don't keep accurate tallies of what I have driven, but I'll do my best.

10,000 miles on my 190D (diesel)
50,000 miles on my New Beetle (diesel)
30,000 miles in a gasser minivan (gas)
70,000 miles on my F350 (diesel)
50,000 miles on my 300SDL (diesel)
20,000 miles on Jason's Jetta (diesel)
40,000 miles on my ECOdiesel (diesel)
60,000 miles on our Passat (diesel)
and some other miles here and there in various vehicles.

So roughly 300,000 miles on diesel and 30,000 or so on gas.

LOL, you've got me beat in terms of diesel/gas miles ratio! :)

there are a few persons here that are commercial pilots for a living. Do you consider Jet fuel as diesel?? they might have some real high numbers to list.

Thanks for the distraction, n1das.....

Total:

184 vehicles
1,104,435 miles (average 6,002 each)

Diesel:

47 vehicles (25.5%)
555,160 miles (50.3%) (average 11,812 each)

Gasoline:

137 vehicles (74.5%)
549,185 miles (49.7%) (average 4,009 each)

My Jetta is my first VW. I have driven it more than:

-Any other vehicle
-All my other "personal" cars combined
-Only 7k mi less than all other cabs combined

Let’s see:

1986 Izuzu Pup, gas, 10k?
1986(?) Subaru GL, gas, 20k?
1987 Astro, gas, at least 10k
1983 S10, gas, 6k
2000 Saturn SL, gas, 116k
2010 Tundra, gas, 20k
2011 Camry, gas, 10k?

Versus

2004 VW Jetta, diesel, 307k

So, 192k on gas, 307k on diesel. Almost 63% of my miles on diesel.
