Left on Wednesday afternoon from west central Indiana to Central Florida and back on Sunday afternoon. 2241 miles with 80+ mph on the way down and plenty of backroads on the way back. Highest price of diesel was in Greencastle, In on the way out and the cheapest was in Henderson, Ky on the way home. 2006 TDI Beetle automatic. Just crunched the numbers and actually got 39.9 mpg over the entire trip. Including the three traffic jams on the way down. One took an hour to get us 10 miles to the next exit! We are still laughing about whether we will be getting any toll bills from the Florida Turnpike! (They now use plate readers to send you your toll bills. Our plate was a wadded up paper temporary tag.
The backroads of Florida USED to be filled with blue-hairs dawdling along. NOW? Them suckers are going like a bat outta......! We were running 70 plus and constantly getting passed.

We took a few. We always take pics at lake Toho in St Cloud of each vehicle we have taken down. My Grandmother lived in St Cloud, Fl for 22 years and we (my wife and I and eventually our son) went down every April and October. We have been married going on 48 years and we have made the trip over 50 times. We didn't really think of these trips as vacation, just 'taking care of Grandma'. We usually went on vacation in the summer. :) Now the trips are just nostalgia. I don't have a photo hosting site right now, so I don't think I can post pics on this site.

Over the years, we have driven almost every variation of this trip we could think of. Going back over these routes are like visiting old friends.
