So I picked up a bit of a steal for 4k, less than 100k on a new engine - body’s over 400- but fully loaded.

it’s got some issues here and there, like the climatronic system isn’t blowing any air currently, needs a delete of the dpf, cat, egr and def system, needs a tune, the auto start isn’t working currently, the aux cable came loose from the bracket or something under the armrest, struts or mount needs replacing, havent thrown it on the lift yet to look at the ball joints and tie rods and stuff but it needs and alignment, a ding here or there and some little bit of rust starting and some oddities like the glovebox won’t lock with the key.

what level tune would be appropriate for this bad boy, stage 1? 1.5? 2?

anyone got a suggestion of where to look or have suggestions on how to fix certain stuff with the car?
Anything to look out for? Let’s hear it :)

A few things, you are posting in the "Ontario" forum !
Also a new engine at less than 100k ? These problems on this car would indicate some neglect on the previous owners part or abusive usage. !!! My car is a 2015 and I have none of those part failures at under 100k.

yup I know I’m posting in the Ontario forum, that’s where I live. Admittedly probably best I post this up in the nms sub-forum, you’re right

ah the car has actually 400k on it. Crappy tire old change gone wrong, so the car wound up with a “new” motor being put in by a euro specialist garage

I'd service the DSG first, and then do a deep dive into it with VCDS to see if any of the things you're wanting to delete are the cause of any issues.
All those deletes will cost a lot, and if it was mine, I wouldn't bother looking at that until they become problems.
Fixing all the other worn out things will quickly eat up all the savings from your "steal".

The OP's 2013 has a completely different engine than your 2015 does. The CKRA engine has plenty of problems the CVCA does not.

You may be right oilhammer, but then my former car was a 2002 Jetta TDI with the automatic tranny which was supposed to be the worst tranny ever. I never had a problem with it. I believe it also depends on the drivers driving habits or driving style. If you beat the crap out of a vehicle problems are sure to surface.
Just my opinion.

The 01M is not the worst transmission ever... it is just the worst transmission Volkswagen ever had, and it just happened to be the one they picked to be bolted to one of the best engines they ever had. And that kind of makes it seem worse, although I've seen too many dead ones that didn't even make it 70k miles to think that it is in any way all just how it was treated. That transmission single handedly ended the 10yr/100k mile powertrain warranty they used to have.

The CKRA's injector problems, turbo problems, cam seal problems, oil filter housing problems, etc. are all well known, and very common, and have zero to do with how the car is treated.

nah removing that DPF and ****... the sooner the better, always. I could drop another 4k into the car... and it would still be a steal of a deal, just sayin...

A6s to A8s are highway munchers.... they are geared for that.... it all depends on what your use pattern is....
Throw in deletes and they quickly become bladder busting long range luxo-cruisers.

If they’re that good after a delete and tune (what I do with ever diesel) I’ll have to maybe pick one up if I can manage to find one for a decent price. Too many are ugly ass interiors though.. the a8s aren’t are pretty on the outside, in my opinion, but 🔥 on the in. I like the look of the a7 exterior though, wish I could have the best of both worlds

The 01M is a conventional 4sp automatic. The DSGs (as used in transverse FWD applications) is designated 02E. There is also a 7sp FWD transverse DSG, not sure what it is designated. But we lost our diesels before those came out.

My stock pig of an egg with the same engine basically, more weight, crappier aero, being used as a DD instead of a hwy cruiser, used for commuting, towing, and just about everything else, returns very acceptable average FE based on all those things.....

A sedan with deletes and better "everything" that I just mentioned would kill it in that kind of comparison.

Well… turns out there’s there’s a separate key for the pass through to the trunk and the glovebox which is now known as the “valet” key, which is a complete misnomer… cause it is by no means the key you give your valet…
