Allowing members who are looking for tunes, to make their own decisions based on performance, is not a competition, it's a comparison. I thought this would be a good idea.
I realize it is a RC event, and the host and RC are at least good friends.
I saw that it is a hostile environment for Tonino from the beginning and couldn't sit back and allow him to be feed to the lions.
I'm strongly recommending to Tonino to not attend and to focus his efforts in a direction where he will be dealing with individuals that are unbiased. Have a nice party

We will - thanks! Keep in mind though that (as Jay said) a party is exactly what it is. Trust me - if Jay were trying to say anything else he would (not that you need anyone to speak for you dude). Check his first post on the topic where he clearly stated that he didn't want a pissing match, which is clearly where this was headed.

All I know is that I am going to go to this for two reasons:

1) Good times with TDI freaks
2) To get a software update to match my hardware

If I wanted drama I would go to a much larger GTG where there is lots of competetion going on.

I think Tonino's idea in his original post (#67?) was a good idea, one pays for food, the other the beverages. It seemed to set it up as a friendly comparison, but the ideas started flying. It just needs to be dialed back a little.

I know both of them.. I met Tonino at one of the gatherings I had at my house a few years ago..

You made the note of a competition by saying..
At the end of the day which ever tuner that had the most tunes wins.
The loser pays the party organizer $500 toward his expenses.

As far as the tuning goes, If Tonino wants to come and tune a few cars I'm not going to be against it, but most everyone coming to get tuned have already dealt with Jeff in the past and probably will continue to do so in the future.. With my cars, Jeff is already familiar with my cars and what I want to get out of them.. Plus I'm not sure if Tonino can build a 35psi, 6500rpm tune that still gets factory like highway economy :p:p

that makes it a competition... No one should need to pay for anything as it's not a competition, only a comparison.. I'd rather not do it at all if this is going to turn out to be a tuning fight thread...

I agree with you that it shouldn't be a competition, especially if it's getting negative. All I was getting at was that Tonino's idea seemed reasonable.

I am coming to work as originally planned. I don't care about this nonsense.

Tonino has been buying RC tunings from me for many years, and he has called and asked me more questions about tuning than kerma.

There is a huge difference between resellers and tuners, that's all I gotta say.

Jeff
Yes I did buy 2 tune from jeff 5 years ago, He knows or should by now that i'm design my own tunes, I'm a tuner, NOT a resaler. I take that statement as a direct insult.
So here is what I'm offering , any Fred's TDI member that doesn't already have a RC tune in their car ,or a car that he is capable of tuning (doesn't include new CR models, jeff cannot tune, his equipment is not capable of it).
I will give a special price of 1/2 off his price.
example
2000 TDI , RC price $300, F1 price $150)

Jeff, insults have responses

let the games begin, Tonino

I'll bring my G-tech accelerometer quantify the level (percentage) of improvement over stock.
How much is your half-price AHU tune, and what is the power increase you claim?

I'm not sure exactly what you're saying here. I want to upgrade from my existing setup.. My goal is to have this engine make power up over 6000rpm, it already pulls hard to the 5800rpm limiter. I'm going to build the internals to handle more rpm, and want to take advantage of that.. I'm already at 195whp with a mostly stock ALH..

the vehicle in question is a 99.5 ALH with an 80pin ECU.. The goofy custom tune will most likely go in a 121 pin 2003 ALH ECU.. Right now, the 99.5 is set up for 5800rpm and 28psi..

Simple 28 PSI of boost means noting 6k RPM means noting
Build a motor for extra 2-3 hp ?
Beside if was any benefits WY the Le-mans cars using Diesel power don't rev above 5K, as far we all know they ave "all" what need to research and develop, but not done...........
I think they would try to squeeze the most to win races ?
So i think there is very litter gain on that........and can be proved

and that's exactly why Jeff will be tuning my car.. He knows what I want and won't try to convince me that what I have is "good enough". I will end up with 40hp more than I have now by the time it's all done. Do you think I would be putting all this $ into the engine for 3hp?? I don't think so.. If I really wanted to go fast I would pick up an old mustang and supercharge it.. Done.. $3k and run low 11's..

I want over 100mph in 3rd gear with factory gearing... I can get to 92mph now. I drag race this car from time to time and want to avoid shifting to 4th right at the end of the track.. If I can run 3rd all the way through the trap at the end I'll turn a better time...

The Le-mans cars have strict rules to adhere to... I don't... I also don't have millions of dollars to research things.. Nor do I have enough pistons to make that kind of power that they are going after... I have 1.9L and 4 cylinders... That's what I have to work with.. They don't rev over 5k because they dont have to, they have the $$ to make the power with less revs, but wait, they have CR and 2 turbos, more pistons, and more than DOUBLE the displacement. I need revs to make power just like any other small 4cyl..

There are plenty of ALH cars on here that are significantly faster than mine... I want that... AND I want decent highway economy...

Jason,
Regardless RPM or boost pressure, at the end is what make on the dyno.

And on top there is a problem drivebility.....
If the power come on/off like switch there is noting to prouve becouse cannot be driven, consecuentially there is no fuel economy "especially" wen load of black smoke comes out, leading to high EGT temperature as well.
so if you ask for power and fuel economy that's really need to be prouven !!
I look foward to show my projects once are completed !!
I give a hint.......just few milions are invested on this project, once are done it would be released and all TDI Member got somting to read and talk about :D

I have to take you for a drive in mine the way it's set up now for you to see what I'm talking about. The power does NOT come on like a switch, it's very smooth, and doesn't smoke excessively.. It made just under 200hp at the wheels, it would have made more but my pump lost pressure at 3800rpm so that's where it stopped.. Everyone that seen it was convinced it would have made 200-205hp if it didn't have the hardware problem.. and it made 325 ft/lbs at 2100rpm.. it drives like factory.. smooth throttle response, better than factory fuel economy on the highway. I got 780 miles out of my last tank of fuel. All this with an engine that has 239,000 miles (384600km)

take a look at this youtube video, it'll give you an idea on how fast it revs out... this was taken here by my house about 2 weeks before the dyno run. I ran out of straight road so I had to back off at the top of 3rd gear. it had 231k on it when I shot the video..

Jason i know exatly what you have
I have played with those cars and the issue power loss above 3800 rpm "were is from" and how can be resolved.

i have done cars tha raves allways to 4700 rpm very linear, so if it falls befoure 4krpm dose not perform linear, i have cars to show this

I don't think you know what I have... My injection pump was failing, that's why there was a power dropoff.. it made 190hp at 3800, and 110hp at 3900.. something FAILED inside the pump that wasn't allowing enough injection presure above 380.. It had nothing to do with the tune or anything. The quantity adjuster stayed at 4.7v, and the timing stayed at 21 degrees, but it suddenly made no power. It's fixed now and revs very linear from idle to 5850 with a slight power dropoff above 5500... did you see the video?

Bottom line is that you are arguing with me over what I want my car to do, that's why someone else is tuning my car..

Remember when you came to my house that time for the one gathering and we were talking about tuning these, and you INSISTED that no reason to rev them over 4700? well, mine revs to 5850 and makes good power, and Joe's car (the chef at my party) revs up over 6000 and makes more power than mine, and still drives very linear, and gets better fuel economy than mine..

I do tune the old cars,
Just did 1987 Porsche 911.... "re-tune" from another tuner screw up
I would not get involved whit solder jobs, too much time to waste.

Can't wait for the *PARTY* and lots of TDI comraderie.

I respect both guys....but Jeff was specifically scheduled for this get together. Calling him out and trying to create this into a competition is not the way to go. If you want a competition then you both need to agree to setup a dyno day at a garage with a big parking lot and then you can go head to head. I don't think it is a positive move to have 2 tuners at the same GTG working, unless it is something like the size of TDIfest.

Would *I* be interested in getting a tune for my stock 2003 for $150???? Absolutely....but at the same time I don't know if a tune for a highly modded car with very specific hardware upgrades could be properly done for $150....there are a lot of variables that will need to be tweaked and tested...and quite possibly retuned after test driving and data logging. I don't think that is the kind of time and patience that your going to want to provide (for $150) if your not willing to touch a solder joint....maybe I'm wrong? I would say that there are probably 3 or 4 "stock" tunes that could be sold rather cheaply for stock cars and mildly upgraded cars, that would probably perform fine...for anyone beyond that I think you really need to be paying for the time and expertise. Thats where the tuner is separated from the reseller. Both guys may very well have that ability...but they need to charge for that time.

Now then....on with the party planning...can't wait for some of Joes cook'n...I think I need to start deciding how much State Fair marinated chicken to bring.

Jason is right. You really need to take the cars like his, Joe's and Delvi's for a ride. I'm a numbers guy, but if you really want to feel the torque and power go up Cummins Hill Road nearby with one of those cars. You'll be pushed back into the seat by all of the torque. The end result is :) !
