Jetta Door Lock issues

Hi,
I've recently cut a new key without the remote lock/unlock and now I can't lock my car when I leave it. I'd like to tackle the issue now. A little info to follow:

The door lock actuators work all around. The door lock switches, however, do not work. The only way to lock/unlock the doors is to use the remote key fob.

The switch on the front passenger door lights up, but doesn't seem to work.
The switch on the driver door doesn't light up at all.

I'd had the shop look at the VCDS and it showed a signal but nothing would actuate.

What should I do for this? I've got a new driver door switch coming. If I swap this out, I hope that things will be fixed.... but suspect a break in the wire harness on one or more doors.

Yep. On those Mk5 cars, the original harness was prone to cracked/broken/exposed wiring in that hinge harness. So much so that if you buy a replacement from the dealer (and I'd suggest doing that if you're planning on keeping the car for a while - repairing the wires is a temp. fix in my experience), it's a wholly different design to the connector to avoid the sharp bending.
