Hello From Sunny Florida:
I want to change my cabin filter, and am in need of some instruction as I don't know where to look for it or the procedure to change it. I have a 2005 Jetta TDI Station Wagon. I thought it might be in the owners manual, but I am missing the 3.2 and 3.3 section.
Also I would like to find the missing sections of my Owners manual but the 2005 Wagon manuals seem to be very scarce. Are the 2004 Owners manuals the same as 2005 manuals for the Jetta Wagons?
Thanks for any information

when you the hood on your car. Look at the weather stripping on the top of the engine compartment that seals when the hood is closed. By the weather stripping on the left side there is a plastic piece with screws. Take those screws off and the filter in there. You just swap them out. As far as owners manuals I think there about under 30$ for a new one or you can look on ebay. Good luck

Cabin Filter

2005 Cabin filter different than previous models!!According to Bentley the filter is accessed from inside passenger compartment near glove box. Unscrew plastic clips and pull down and remove closeout panel under right side of dash. Release filter cover by depressing locking tab and sliding to right(some versions may have 1 or 2 screws securing cover.slide filter out of oppening in ac housing duct.:D

I call it the cowl, at the top right side of the fire wall when you open the hood. On my Golf there are 4 phillips screws that have to be removed and the plastic cover will slide out.

Guys....The WAGON is an A4 chassis. Also they MADE A4 cars in 05' Jettas included.

The cabin filter is on the left side of the windshield when looking at the car with an open hood.

__. Yeah, and there's some wierdness with it. You basically have to find a way to get a 7 1/2 inch wide plastic cover out of a 7 1/4 inch wide slot (well, not really but it seems like it). Kinda like the metal puzzles where you have two horseshoes held together by a couple of chain links and you have to get the metal ring off them. Just keep rattling and wiggling the plastic cover around and it will come off. Also, then it's easy to pull the filter element out of the slot but then you have to slide the new one back in the slot again and that's a lot harder. But it's one of those things that takes you 25 minutes the first time you do it and 6 minutes the next time. Just do it ....

He is correct, I just did mine and the filter had instructions in the box.

Has anyone done an A3 to A4 cabin filter swap? I noticed that bleachedbora is selling a kit, but if possible I want to try it on my own to save a little cash. Sorry for stealing the thread... just wanted to avoid starting a new one if at all possible.

I've done the cabin filter change many times and it never gets easier with my 03 Jetta.

I can do it in less than 6 minutes with my fiance's 03 Golf but my Jetta takes a lot of pushing/flexing/creeking of plastic to get that cover back in.

Yes, but I bought the kit from parts4vw.com. Long before Aaron hit the scene.

Amen! It's a pain on my '02 Jetta. I think you have to stand on one foot, squint out of one eye, and stick your tongue out at the right angle to make it happen. Lots of pushing/twisting/tweaking helps too.

Actually, come to find out, my car actually should have one already installed. It is a 1998, and when I went to a Volkswagen parts store online, they listed it as a part that is compatible with my car. Choose 1997, and the cabin filter part disappears -- is 1998 the year that Jettas started coming equipped with a cabin filter then?

Jetta easier than the Beetle?

Hello

My Beetle is a pain, gotta pull the RH dashbard off, first removing the center front dash, then the 2 screws with spring washers (don't let them fall in the defroster vent as I did!) for the right, then pop it off, then remove 6 screws on the cover.
Then, as a previous poster said, try to get the filter frame, that sure seems bigger than the hole, out without breaking it.
Removal is MUCH easier than install.
Before installing, I vacuum the whole dash intake area and then spray with Lysol disinfectant, just in case, as far as the spray will reach.
Then, install filter in frame, wiggle for about 5-6 minutes to slide in without letting filter fall out, (frame sits above filter, and can't install filter in permanent box).
Simple 10 minute fix takes about 30 minutes after you've done it before.

The wife's 02 Jetta (non-TDi, <sigh>) is much easier!
