Looking to get some more umph from a Jeep 2.8 CRD.

The stock turbo is a GT2056, would a GTB2260 be a good upgrade?

Anyone know of where I can get boost curves for each?

Sorry not VW I know :D but my V10 Touareg is next.

It definitely couldn't hurt, probably not many people here who have messed with the 2.8 CRD. I would find someone who could tune it and talk with them about it.

Now throw a pair of 2260's on your Treg and you would have a tire roasting tranny eater :).

I think a 2260vk or 2265vk hybrid from RyanP with a suncoast converter and a custom GDE tune would be a perfect hot street setup. I'm actually thinking of buying a liberty myself as a light towrig that would get a 6 speed swap and upgraded turbo.

Maybe I can get in touch with Jeff at Rocketchip since he's in my neck of the woods

Are you going to offer these services in the near future? I'm also looking for one of these rigs. That and trying to make up my mind on a golf or a jetta.

Green Diesel Engineering is the way to go they have extensive testing and tunes for both ecu's the one on the engine and the one on the tranny, they also did testing for Jeep before the release of the Jeep CRD. We had one for 5 years and there is no one that knows it better or has done more testing out west with high tunes and turbo's. You really need to talk with them. I met them in lower Michigan for my tunes and they are spot on with extensive testing.

I offer all services all the time :). Only catch is there's always people in line so there's usually a little bit of a waiting list. VW TDI's are only about half of what I do ;).

Yes, and by 6 speed do you mean manual or auto?
Manual of course! I despise automatics in everything except extreme rock crawling rigs or purpose built drag vehicles.

From everything I've been able to research, the liberty's came from the factory with a 6 spd so all the OEM parts are out there to do the swap for the pedals and trans. I'm close enough to South Bend Clutch that I could haul everything over there they need to make a custom SMF clutch setup and I'm also close enough to GDE to drive up there and let them perfect the tuning.

Parts for the diesel 6 speed swap(the trans at least) would have to come from europe. The gassers 6 speed is way different. Not to mention the lower tow rating. I used to own a crd and looked into it. Green diesel does do a amazing job with their tunes

Well, I don't have a Libery yet, but I did just buy a Jetta. Only bad thing is, it's an auto. I need to get with you to see what we can do with this thing. I'm sure it is 100% stock. Haven't see it yet, bought it off ebay.

My Liberty CRD has an RC1 tune and is currently on the 3rd torque converter under the factory warranty. Factory warranty is now up, we'll see how long the latest torque converter lasts.

I'd love to upgrade to GDE's larger turbo package with reprogrammed ECU. However, I doubt the long term reliability of even the Suncoast torque converter with all the extra torque of a larger turbo and aggressive tune.

If you can swing it, a 6 speed install is the way to go, along with adding a fuel boost pump and replacing the OEM fuel filter with one of the aftermarket systems.

If someone can track down the parts, I'd be willing to offer up my Liberty this spring for beta testing :)

GDE seems like a great company to and offer a TCM (tranny computer) tune.

The Euro TC seems to be good as well as the suncoast one.

Hmm

The parts are relatively easy from everything I've been able to read, a nsg370 from a 3.7L v6 will bolt up to the crd motor. I'd just opt for a SMF clutch setup over the OEM DMF. South Bend Clutch is only 3 hours away from me so getting that made wouldn't be a huge issue either. The auto delete tuning should be able to be handled by a competent tuner (GDE, RC, etc).

Yes, the 6spd trans technically only has a 272ft/lbs torque rating, but there's quite a few hemi swaps in JK's running that trans with no issues. Heck, look at our 02J's we abuse the living crap out of and how well they hold up. I doubt they're rated for anything over 240-250ft/lbs and we've pushed them well past 350-400ft/lbs with no real issues but the diff. If you are really worried about tearing the nsg up, cryo treat the gears before put the trans in and don't do 4WD boosted drag launches.

I may need to talk to you about a road trip to Ohio this spring. Hopefully this torque converter will last through the winter with the help of another application of Dr. Tranny Shudder Fix additive to the tranny fluid.
