I'll be happy when it warms up and I can take off my studded snow tires and gain 20 MPG's. I want to give NooC a run for his money :) This MPG's in the 40's is for the birds.

Now to talk out of the other side of my mouth...I wouldn't trade my studded snow tires for anything especially with all the snow/ice we've had this winter. And to still get mid 40's for mileage when the car won't even get up to temp for the last two weeks. I'm contnet.

I would have had another tank to report this month but found out an interesting fact: when I start my car after sitting outside in -5 to -15degF for two days, it will crank so hard that it will clear my cluster's memory (tripometer and clock).

I decided to fill on the last day off the month and try for a full tank of smooth and easy driving with my new tires. It will be interesting to see how well I can do.

Average of 51.48 mpg on Bluesun Biodiesel. Avg speed on the tank according to the trip computer was 57.4mph. On a 47 mile loop on the toll way in Denver at a constant 73 mph, I averaged 64.3 mpg, which is the best I've achieved.

Not too bad at all, considering that apart from one short road trip, this was all city mileage, and with my crappy commute.

Am I the only one brave enough to run a high-biodiesel blend this month???? (Of course, I *AM* in Phoenix and have a garage, so maybe that's not so strange.)

Can someone please start Feb
Hi MPLSTDI,
I would like to have a 44+ MPG average but actual is 42 I am listed incorrectly after Dr. Smile I should be listed after, DFWDieselJet. Thanks for doing this months contest I know it must be alot of work.

Take care,

My 5643 miles was more than 1/12 of the total miles driven during the competition. The 2000-mile return leg of a long road trip should have raised my average fuel mileage, but from Tulsa to Flagstaff I was fighting a 40mph head wind (dust and grit also did a number on my windshield  ).

I will fix that when I get home. Odd I guess I can't trust the auto sort.

Hm, I think I have one of your intakes in my trunk, waiting to be installed :D

Anyways, being the January thread, I doubt your entry will be tallied.

I know, when I got my TDI in 2000 I was close to getting the HX, I raced many VTEC type engines and I was very happy with them. The TDI can make about 180 WHP and be dependable. The torque is hard on the driveline but drivability ws great, better then any car I've owned before or after. I decided to pickup a HX to see what I missed out on. I built a unique two stage VTEC engine based on a D15B JDM head. The I toss a turbo on it. I run it on regular unleaded at 200 to 220 WHP. I could have built it for +100 WHP if I wanted to run expensive stuff. My Civic is much faster then my TDI even with the low HP turbo, IMO the Civic is a much better car and platform, except there is little in gear torque, I usually have to down shift two gears for any type of performance, and lag is not bad with my setup, but alas nothing like a VNT-17 and a diesel. This is partially offset by the Honda having the best shifting trans in the world. So while my TDI could give a scare to a V8 Mustang, it would lose in a longer type of race or be beaten bad in the 1/4 mile, the Civic will kill just about anythig this side of a well driven manual GT 3 valver.

So I'm at 43 MPG lifetime with my Civic with 25% more HP, 15% less weight, far better wishbone suspension, far better trans but um 1/2 the torque and that is what I uses 99.9% of the time.
