Does anyone have any recommendations for someone who can do the timing belt job around Jacksonville, Fl?

Thanks in advance.

Sorry, but the most reliable people we would feel comfortable recommending to you would be in Tampa and Atlanta... see if you can find a reason to visit either locales, and send them an e-mail...

Tampa: Keith Scarborough useID LWB053 here
McDonough (GA): David Brubaker userID davidbru here.

(PS: is your car a 1999 or a 1999.5 ???)

I work in Tampa so maybe I can drive over one week and have it done. Regarding whether it's a 99 or 99.5, I'm not sure. I'll have to figure out how to tell the difference. I'm sure the answer is on this board somewhere!

1999 and older = A3 chassis
1999.5 -> 2005 = A4 chassis

Of course, it would help if I knew whether we're talking about a Jetta or Golf (for those designations above), a New Beetle (A4), or a Passat (different animal yet again...)

Sorry to seem ignorant, but all I can tell you is that it's a 1999 Golf. I don't know how to tell if it's a 1999 or 1999.5

Where are your front directional signals and city ("parking") lights? If they're in a row in a broad plastic strip under the headlights, you've got an A3... if they're inside the headlight assembly, you've got an A4...

Mystery solved! The signals and parking lights are all inside the headlight assembly, so it's an A4.

Thanks for educating me on this.

Well, now we know what kind of beast we're dealing with!!

The A4 belt system has had a couple of component upgrades in the years following your model. Fortunately, they're all backwards compatible, so if you wind up ordering a (deluxe!!!) kit of parts from www.dieselgeek.com you will bring your timing belt system to one with a rated life of 100,000 miles!! There are other places to shop, of course, but be careful about which model year parts you do get!! Many dealerships/garages will only put on "original" parts - which in your case brings you back to 40,000 mile (auto) or 60,000 mile ratings...

All the best,

Yuri.

I dont recomend volkstech. I had some work done their and was not happy. I paid to have a t-belt done and have the intake cleaned they were also supposed to lower duty cycle for egr and flush brake system. they did t-belt only and charged for everything. When I confronted him with this he said he didn't charge enough and said i owed him money. He did say he would clean the intake at no charge but I never went back. just started doing all repairs my self.
