Re: It\'s here: Gasoline overtakes Diesel in price!

I was paying $2.639 last week, but filled up today for $2.499. Sorry, but I didn't even pay attention to the price of gasoline. It could have been a little higher or a little less. But regular unleaded has been over $2.50 just about everywhere.

About those yellow magnetic "Remember the troops" ribbons -- I've got one because I want to be constantly reminded of them. I don't want to forget them, or take their sacrifices for granted. And I'm in and out of my car all day long, so I see the ribbon on my own car frequently. It's not just a statement to others.

Re: It\'s here: Gasoline overtakes Diesel in price!

These days driving an suv says more about a person than the little yellow magnetic ribbon pasted on the back of it.
Why does a simple conversation about what happens to be the present increase or decrease in fuel have to turn into a politcal soap box for people.
If that's the direction we always want to take this, fine, but let's tell the complete story, shall we?

Here in Southern Ohio, diesel is between $2.19 - $2.29
(as little as $ .01 more than regular at many stations). In Ohio this is good, our fuel is taxed to death because of all the truck routes through our state. A few weeks ago diesel was 2.35-2.45 (running with the price of plus gas, now it's with regular)

My feeling is that I'm still getting a good deal with my TDI. Any gas car I'd drive requires plus or premium gas anyway, so I'm paying less than that and getting 47 mpg (highway). Any gas car I'd own would require oil changes twice as often, and I drive ALOT so I'm still saving like a mofo. I guess I'm looking at the long view here.

I haven't seen diesel cheaper than gas here yet in Minnesota since last fall. And it is stated as straight #2 now.

This morning.
Gas 1.889 and diesel 2.349 at the same station.

46 cents difference!

I'm with Westro on local prices. Last time I looked around here, the closest station had regular 2.379, premium 2.579, and diesel 2.599. So, diesel still more expensive than premium around here.

$2.399 for Diesel in the Nashua-Hudson NH area.

RUL = $2.119
MUL = $2.219
PUL = $2.319
DIESEL = $2.399

Re: It\'s here: Gasoline overtakes Diesel in price!

The three places I mentioned on route 15 just before the Md border from VA were at 2.199 with regular at 2.259. But they always offer a competative price on diesel and a poor price on gas.

elsewhere I'm seeing 2.099 on gas and up to ~2.459 for diesel. 2.459 for rot-gut 40 centane.

Re: It\'s here: Gasoline overtakes Diesel in price!

A month or two ago, I saw a Jeep Cherokee forsale in a parking lot that had "V6 - Gas Saver" written on it.
Helios, that's funny! I was looking through my local paper's classifieds and I noticed two ads that mentioned fuel eceonomy... and both were cars that got mid-high 20s.

This morning, at my local stations:

RUL $2.22
DIESEL $2.39

In other words, diesel costs 8% more than gas. So, if I were driving a gasser, it would have to be getting better than 46 MPG to save me money!

None of that matters, since B100 is $1.70 after rebate!

Re: It\'s here: Gasoline overtakes Diesel in price!

Has anyone seen the new assinine rediculous Saturn commercial yet? They basically are knocking cars that get good gas mileage and say "what good is great gas mileage without any horse power" I kid you not ...that is an exact quote from the commercial...and then they go on to tout thier Ion as a powerful 140hp car that gets a "great" 32MPG highway...I was having a hard time trying to decide whether I should be rolling on the floor laughing or REALLY pieved because I KNOW a lot of typical car buying american dopes will fall for this advertising scheme and trickery...hell..you can buy a full sized 200HP Impala that will get 32MPG on the highway...whoopie crap on the Ion....and they are from the SAME stinkin motor company for God's sake.

Hello....my name is Craig...and I drive a fuel efficient vehicle...I guess I should be ashamned if I were to fall for the advetising of Saturn...oh wait...My car HAS 135HP and puts down probably TWICE the torque that your crappy @ss Ion does...oh yeah...and one other thing...I get 58%!!!!!better fuel economy than your piece of garbage on the highway....and thats at 75MPH!! All of this and I have not even brought up the ability to run on renewable fuel sources..wow...go figure...thank goodness I'm an informed buyer that refuses to be lead like far too many of the rest of the sheep.

Re: It\'s here: Gasoline overtakes Diesel in price!

Sorry about that above rant...but when I saw the commercial I was mortified...it is one of the saddest things I have seen in awhile when it comes to advertising garbage, gimmicktry, and outright lieing. It would be different if it was some infomercial crap being sold by Ron Popiel...but this was coming from GM...a Fortune 10 company that should be able to be trusted to at least provide somthing that is not outright bogus.

Re: It\'s here: Gasoline overtakes Diesel in price!

My fiancé has a saturn. The compact car before the Ion. It's a great car and the E.P.A. rating was at 40mpg. She's done close to 50 in that car. She's never had a problem with it and bought it new. The doors have no dents though they've been hit a few times by kids. Doesn't have much for horsepower. Doesn't accelerate for anything. It's an automatic. But it's been a great car.

SO she recommended I look at the ion when I was looking for my new car.

Her car always had great reviews. The Ion had horrible reviews. Consumer reports actually said something to the line of, 'the xxxhercartypeherexxx was an excellent car, why did they have to throw it away and start making the Ion?'

Saturn is talking about taking off their rubbermade doors.

So, what do I have to say... The older saturns on the road are going to be there for a while cause they were great cars. Something changed. For the worse. I wouldn't listen to the saturn commercials on TV.

(but then I don't have tv)

The latest in Dallas: stations are still all over the map. If there's a pattern, it's that truck stops are pricing diesel at close to or less than RUL, but places that sell mostly gas still charge 10-20c more for diesel. I wonder if this is an indirect indicator of how often they get their storage tanks topped off?

Robert...I would be willing to bet that it IS an indicator of thier Diesel turnover...you will want to avoid those places in the future even if they are lower when the truck stop price increases.

We are almost there here in Bend. Diesel is hovering right around the price of mid range. Some places just below, some just above.

Same here VF...I'm thinking some of it has to do with the late cold snap here in the northeast and some good old gouging. Prices are significantly lower in NJ...more so than the difference in tax.

__. Price at the truckstops on I-95 in VA (Flying J near Kings Dominion north of Richmond and Love's near Emporia are usually the cheapest) has risen by 12-15 cents in the past week/10 days. These places are always the cheapest of the places that I generally get near. But gas prices are now generally higher than diesel -- although diesel can vary in price by 25-30 cents within a five-mile radius. I agree that this probably people selling off "old stock" that they paid a high wholesale price for back when stocks were lower during the winter (and there's probably some of the "the price was high last week so we'll keep in high and see if we can gouge a few more people" attitude going on, too).

Well, I hate to rain on the party....... But, diesel just bumped back above regular gasoline here yesterday. Diesel is $2.19 and regular gas is $2.17 and many places the difference is even more.......

What's up with this?

Re: It\'s here: Gasoline overtakes Diesel in price!

I can't explain a price increase in Kentucky. But here in California, the AAA site shows a 1 cent rise today. Part of our problem is the Shell refinery in Bakersfield. It was scheduled to be shut down permanently, but Governor Schwarzenegger negotiated a sale to Flying J. The refinery is temporarily closed pending the transfer of ownership. It has 6% of the state's diesel refining capacity.

I hope they restart it very soon. The state's truckers are really hurting.

I confirm that is the case here too: diesel still $2.61, a few cents more than premium gasoline.

If this keeps up much longer I'm going to invest in KY-Jelly stock.
