Is the A3 same as the mk4?

I was driving around today and saw a nice Audi, which made me wonder if the a3 is more like the MK3, MK4 or did it go right to the MK5 platform? It or are there years that perhaps overlap?

When North America finally got the Audi A3, it was on the Golf 5 platform. And only in the 4 dr Sportback version. Then in 2015, it jumped straight to the Golf 7 platform, and sedan only for us.
