I think it is, and my buddies at work and one gal, rag on me, but I don't give a hoot. A lot of young girls must think it is feminine, cause that is mostly what I see driving them here. I bought it for the diesel, and I like the style cause I used to drive the old gassers, and had several of them. Personally I like it better than the other body styles in its class. I like it because it is looks unique. Just my preference and opinion. I also have 2 "big old redneck" trucks too, and they are diesel. Love them too.

True Story from Gulf Coast

2006 Cream colored New Beetle TDI. I was driving back home (Biloxi, Ms) from New Orleans after watching my Saints team lose another football game. I am driving eastbound on I-10, miles from nowhere when I see a Chevy sedan with flashers-on parked off the shoulder of the road. About 1/2 mile ahead is some guy walking off the interstate carrying a plastic gas container. Being the samaritan that I am, I slow down off the shoulder and offer the guy a ride to the next exit (some 10 miles easily). He stuck his head through the open window on the passenger side, eyed my flower in the vase, looked carefully at my bug and casually said "No thanks- I'll pass". :D You make your own conclusions.

Will,

It wasn't the Beetle or vase. It was your shoes and non-matching purse.

:D

feminine Beetle

I too bought one recently(2005 gls tdi) and my mailman said he thought I had a girlfriend over. I too don't care, maybe the ladies know something us guys don't, this is a great little car, handles well, shifts smooth (5 Speed manual) has all the amenities and best of all and my main reason, holy cow, what great mileage. My other vehicle is a 2007 Dodge mega cab with a cummins diesel, it pulls my Airstream. It is not a practical car to drive around town and gas had been very expensive considering is it crude oil compared to gasoline. I have had some friends give me a bad time, still don't understand why, and don't care, maybe it is the flower pen, that is gone in mine. I really don't care though, I am 66 and have had corvette's, airplanes and I will tell you I love this little car. Cpt. Ron

My Y2K NB is silver, and dirty too. I keep the black smuge on the rear bumper as a badge of honor. 335K, original clutch, 48 mpg, and still plenty of life left. Not to be sexist;) but I don"t know many "girls" that could get that out of a clutch. Also got 314K on the original pads, then changed them out before the rotors needed any attention.

Other Rides:
09 Jetta TDI Sedan, Manual, 19K, 43.3 mpg,:D
05 Passat TDI, 180K, 38 mpg (wife), 40 mpg (me)
02 Eurovan, Premium gasser, 62K, 20 mpg
67 Beetle Restoration Project
86 Toyota PU, 285K, cuz a MAN has to have a truck :p

I don't think they're feminine, but then I'm more secure than some guys here in NC. Besides, the Arnold drove a '68 Bug when he moved here from Munich.

Only my hairdresser knows for sure

And everyone else once I get out of the car. Feminine? Of course, in a sexy sort of way. Red with a wing, thats the ticket.

I bought my black '98 used, as it was the only thing I could get with a diesel and manual trans.
People at work tease me, because my last car was a white Miata, and a red Alfa before that. They always ask where I keep the feather boa.

But I hang around with a lot of college kids, and the girls are far more impressed with the Beetle than my Australian Capri convertible. Go figure.

Does it get any more masculine that this?

These manly men are also proud to drive New Beetles.

I happen to drive a Nerdmobile. I know of a fair number in the US who do as well.

I've been called in a few times to fix Geek Squad foul-ups.

I think the new beetle with the spoiler is a very sexy combination, I can't stomach the incredibly long dash though... bleech. Still I would own a beetle anyday, gas or not. We'll see how many poke fun when all six foot four of me steps out of that thing :D

It did take some getting used to having the acre of dash in front of you. Now, I don't even notice it. Lots of room for papers and such if I need to toss them on the dash.

For those folks who really want to laugh along with the laughers, I have the perfect duds to wear while driving a NB. I'm a former circus clown, and I still have my agent suit. If I'm stuck on the side of the road, it wouldn't be funny to me, but to everyone else, it'd be a BiG laugh. I removed the last sentence because folks really just laughed and didn't stop. The RBBB had a NB for several years.

Recently bought a NB TDI yellow. Already got a black bra for it, wondering where else I can get some acessories ( besides the dealership).. would like the mudflaps, the moon roof black plastic shield thing etc.
my BF and i will be sharing the car, so the yellow plastic flower in the holder is out of the question.
