Mine has always turned off instantly when I hit the button, turns on instantly too, unless cold weather and I have to wait a few seconds for glow plugs.

I have to push the button right in the middle and hard enough to make adequate contact to start or stop. In the heat of the summer, the engine stops right away but fans may be delayed by 2 to 3 seconds (not in regen). Some delayed shutting down of fans I noted lately, but not the same as after regen is interrupted when fans can run for a few minutes after. When you speak of time to turn off, does your engine continues to run at idle RPM or are you hearing the fan noises only with engine RPM at zero? I am sorry for a rudimentary question, but I have never experienced car not starting or stopping, except if I don't push the start button properly and it makes no contact, then it is like pushing a placebo button. You push it again and all starts and stops immediately.

ooo did not know that . i having the button replaced
If you have a dirty button, you could turn the car off and if you hit the button again while it's off with the foot on the brake. The engine will start.

I went cheap and took my button apart, it had soda spilt on it and onced I cleaned it. It acts brand new now.

I left the shifter boot on the trim piece, it's a little tight but just need to remove the electrical connector and push 2 tabs to pop the start button out.

2012-2015 have the same body for the most part.

Here is a video, the trim will be the same, but I think the button is different on the 2015 for disassembly. I would pull from the top by the door compartment lip than what he did.

You don't think about how often you actually use it but it does get a fair amount of wear/usage. I don't know what they go for now but it was worth the $130 and 20 minutes it took to replace it. Mine wanted to try and start and turn off like an immobilizer issue.

I've been having clean mine every year. I've been debating on finding the wires and adding a dual pole momentary switch in the center. Because that's all they are isn't it? A momentary button?
