Hello all -

those of you with iPods plugged into the MDI cable in the center console - how do you orient the ipod? The cable is short and thick - hard to twist. I don't want to pinch it or either connector. I've tried putting the ipod (3G Nano, so it's small) plug side up and plug side down. Neither is optimal.

Preferences? At some point I'll put a Touch in there, but it's even larger.

I put it plug side up, and then as gently as possible curl the cable around the top of the inside trying to minimize pinching. The 30 pin connector is pretty robust, and the MDI end seems pretty sturdy, so as long as you don't go hog-wild with the cable itself, it will be fine.

I put it gently down with the connector up.

Ipod nano, plug side up and actually leave the ipod out side the storage area.

Heck the only thing I find the storage area good for is my pencile tire gauge and spare change it's so small.

iPod click wheel (1g - anyone remember those?), iPod Nano, iPhone all get plugged in and then slid in with the plug down. I found with the plug up it was putting to much twist into the cord.

I use an iPhone 3GS so a bit thicker than the touch. What I've been doing is leaving the cable sticking out under the arm rest. I also lock the armrest up one notch to prevent pinching. With that, plug my phone in and set it in the rear cup holder. I plug it in even when I'm not listening to the ipod to charge the battery and since I take it with me every time I get out, it's a convenient location.

I don't have a iPod but I have a small pocket hard drive. I was a tight fit but to give me a little more room I removed the rubber pocket liner. Just get you finger nails behind the rubber and squeeze it to the center and it will pop and pull it up. My drive fit a little better with out the liner. I then tucked the cable plus a USB cable between the drive and the pocket.

None any more. My heart couldn't take it.
Plug up. As I insert my iPod Nano, I rotate it 180° counterclockwise (viewed from above). This takes up some cable slack and helps smoothly tuck it against the side of the iPod.

iPod classic, in upright position, with plug on the bottom, although I don't really think it matters much how the iPod is oriented, or the cable, as long as you're careful.
