the coding instructions are in the instructions for the MDI retrofit kit
According to the manual(for the radio), it can take a 32 gig card(may have to be an SDHC card...can't remember). BUT, the number of files/folders is limited(forget exact numbers, but it's in the radio manual). No way you can fit 32 gigs worth of music within the file/folder limit unfortunatelyGitbox said:Also interesting is that the SD card input only reads up to 2 gig...

Where do I start on getting panels off the front console and getting access to the RCD-510 radio?
Thanks!
tom365 is not tomo366........The factory installed MDI interface comes installed in the Console.........so you lose at least half of the console to what ever device you have connected to it! It is controlled through the radio........I haven't heard one yet so I don't know the sound quality!eggspoogas said:Ok so tomo what do you mean exactly by "the interface is kind of clunky"? And I guess that means you didn't go with the on that just goes in the glove box? How is the sound quality and can you control everything easily from the radio? Thanks
aenea said:I just did this today on my 2010 jsw. The panel around the radio is the only one I had to remove. You can slide the new control unit behind the climate contol area without removing the panel.
The absolutely hardest part of the install for me was removing the wires to move them to the new harness. I don't have a tool and used a paperclip. It turned a job that would have taken about 45 minutes into 3 hours. But it works now!
Awesome! Glad it went well for you. I do have to ask: where/how did you start in getting the panel around the radio off? Is there a good place to start?aenea said:I just did this today on my 2010 jsw. The panel around the radio is the only one I had to remove. woozer said:Hi - I just got my MkVI TDI yesterday and am all-around delighted but I do have one question, which I can't seem to find an answer in the owner's manual, and two different sales folks at the distributor couldn't help.
How do I make the radio screen (non-navi version) display my ipod playlists? All I get is a list of songs, alphabetized by artist, and then by song.
I've got some driving playlists that I really like, and I can't figure out how to get at 'em.
Am I missing something?
Thanks!
Huh? I thought 2010 Golf was MkVI. ???tomo366 said:Also you car is a MK5 not a MK6.
Yes a Golf is a MKVI Jetta is not........I assumed you had a Jetta since this is a Jetta Thread........woozer said:Huh? I thought 2010 Golf was MkVI. ???
In other news, I figured out a semi-workaround to get at playlists.
1) Turn on music system.
2) Turn on ipod
3) Select desired playlist in ipod. Connect to interface cable immediately.
4) Scroll through playlist as desired.
If wishing to go to a new playlist, disconnect ipod from connector cable, select a new playlist, and then repeat steps 3 and 4.
Check that your Ipod is in Airplane mode, that cuts down on the background fuzz.RebelTDI said:I had trouble with poor sound quality with my iPod Touch 32 GB. The vocals sounded "fuzzy" in spite of altering the bass/treble. I was actually able to fix the problem by going to "Settings" and selecting "Factory settings". The sound quality has been perfect since. I still get an occasional drop out of sound at the beginning of songs. Advancing through the song library is a bit slow, also. I agree with the other comments that the interface is a bit clunky, but I am glad to have the MDI overall.![]()

When looking at the alphabetized list touch the icon in the upper left of the screen and you can sort by different things including "playlist".woozer said:Hi - I just got my MkVI TDI yesterday and am all-around delighted but I do have one question, which I can't seem to find an answer in the owner's manual, and two different sales folks at the distributor couldn't help.
