Man, this thing is driving me crazy. I have my ipod hooked up and I can't see or browse artist, song, etc. The first five buttons on the head unit select your first five playlists and the sixth button supposedly gives you access to all your songs. But each button only allows 99 songs.

Is there any way to be able to select artists, songs, etc from the head unit or are you just limited to the first 99 songs on your ipod? I hope not because I have 17000 and I have to have my music.

Alright, so if anybody cares I at least figured this out.

If you put your iPod on shuffle and then stick it in the dock you can play all of your songs on shuffle. I don't think that there is any way you can view song titles, etc. You can probably select the CD that you want to listen to on your iPod and then stick it in the dock and play it. I will keep messing with it.

The only way you're going to get full iPod control (i.e. ID3 tag info, etc.) is if you have the RNS-510 navigation with the iPod cable for the MDI that comes with the RNS-510. Otherwise, the iPod cable just mimics a CD-changer, as you have found out.

Thanks Pelican. So there is NO WAY that you can view any kind of song titles, artists, etc with the ipod dock in the standard 09 premium sound radio correct? You have to have the VW Nav unit. This will save me a bunch of time trying to mess with it.

You can stop trying, you won't find artist/album/song title info anywhere but on the iPod with the Premium VII head unit and the iPod cable.

I just put it on shuffle, let it start playing and then put in in the iPod dock. It was already on "CD6" which supposedly plays all your songs so I just let it roll. I could go back to the songs I listened to before i put it in too. It was on the 35th song on shuffle and the head unit said song 35. It let me go back and forward, so at least that is cool. I think I read somewhere that the track button only goes to 99 but the turning the knob goes on forever.

I don't have the cable and the AUX jack, I have the built in "dock". I'm sure it is the same though.

I have the iPod kit in our '04 Jetta. The readout on the head unit only displays the last two digits. It will truncate or eliminate the leading digits. It will not display artist or song names on the head unit. Like you say, the first 5 'cds' are playlists, while #6 is for all. You have to define the playlists on the iPod first.

I'm not sure about the head unit on your '09, but this is how the add in kit behaves.

Harry.

The dock is essentially the same as the iPod cable, it just has a fancy holder for the iPod built into the car.

I am a TDI new guy and I read the posts and they are still not answering my question. I have an 09 Jetta with the navigation system but I can not get my IPOD to play using the cable that came with the car. The only way I can make it play is using an AUX cable. Can any one give me any help?

Do you have the older MFD2 (DVD-based navigation, non-touchscreen) or the newer RNS-510 (hard drive-based navigation, touchscreen)? If you have the MFD2, the iPod cable mimics a CD-changer. If you have the RNS-510, a RNS-specific iPod cable is required that attaches to the MDI connector that's underneath the center armrest.

I have the new one with the touch screen. I took it to the dealer to have them help and they had no idea where to begin.

The cable that came with the car, does it plug into the iPod's dock connector and then into the MDI that's underneath the center armrest?

Sorry, it has taken me a week to reply, my son had surgery last week and I have been a little side tracked.

Yes it plugs into the bottom of the Ipod and then into the car under the armrest. The addition to the owners manual says I should put it in facing the passenger seat and then it should work. Not so much...

If you have the touchscreen navigation (RNS-510 with buttons on either side of screen and SD card slot beneath the screen), the car should've come with the MDI in the center console beneath the armrest. If you have an iPod dock under the armrest (which it sounds like you do) instead of the MDI interface, you got gipped.

ipod jack in console

I have an 09 Jetta, in the console is a plug in similar to that of a headphone jack. I have read the manual and it talks of ipod adapter, however it does not mention the plug in (unless that what the adapter is). The manual shows an ipod docking station but all I have is the jack.

Should I be able to get a connector cable and plug it into my ipod and the jack in the console to listen to my ipod?

You are better off with the auxiliary than the ipod charger in the center console. You can't see the song info but you can operate the ipod manually.
I have the Ipod adapter charger in my 09 Jetta does anyone know if there is an extender cable that can plug into the headphone jack on my ipod on the one end and the ipod adapter on the other? It is such a lame set-up I'm trying to make the best out of it without spending too much.

Just saw a website, cablejive.com, that sells an extenstion cable that should let you have much more access to the Ipod. Thinking of getting it when I get paid. Google "ipod extension cable" and it will give you several more sites.

I feel like I've posted this everywhere but today I installed the PAC uPAC-VW1 in my JSW that gives me an additional iPod cable (for me to hide my iPod under the seat) and an AUX-IN that I'll be using for my Garmin 765t with Bluetooth hands-free. It also gives me the ability to navigate my 160GB iPod using the TUNE knob as a jog-wheel and full text display on the screen. I prefer to use the OEM dock in the console for my iPhone so this solution is perfect for me. I think the OEM dock is a thief magnet for those of use that want to leave our iPod in the car so it was a little useless to me as it was. Since the iPod cable is a standard configuration, I'm sure someone could splice the uPAC into the OEM dock cable. Anyway, good stuff.

And on a side note, I got the above-mentioned CableJive iPod cable and after finally getting it plugged in, I crushed it under the pivoting armrest. Sweet. It still sort of works.

Ipod Doc to Bluetooth/Aux?

I tried this 30 pin to Bluetooth converter. It DID NOT work. The stereo doesn't detect it, although it worked fine on a normal apple stereo charger. Has anyone found something like this that works? Just want to be able to play songs from phone on the stock radio (for less than a whole new radio could cost. This one could also do an aux cord (which would be ok too).
