iPhone integration with charging on MKIV

So, I got a blitzsafe adapter for my iPod in my MKIV and it's great. Charges, plays songs beautifully (except my old iPod is on it's last legs). I figure with the new iPhone coming out in 64gb in a couple weeks, it's time to replace the iPod with an iPhone that can finally hold all my music. My problem is the blitzsafe doesn't charge my current iPhone 3g since Apple made the brilliant move to change their pin layout on the doc connectors for iPhones...
So, which adapters are out there that will actually charge iPhones while retaining local iPhone control over the songs, etc... Something hardwired that plugs into the CD changer port on the OE Monsoon is what I'm looking for.

I too am looking for this very thing for my Non-Monsoon MK4. Do you have the blitzsafe model number for the one you are currently using?
I'm also looking for one for my B6 wagon with text support, charging, and controls on the head unit. If I can't find one that works, I'll try for the cd changer input on this one too. Model numbers or links appreciated if anyone can help out on this!

I don't recall the model number of the Blitzsafe I installed. I bought it in Spring of 2008 so it's not *that* old. V1 rings a bell?!? Anywho, I sent enfig an email inquiring about this as well. I should have more info next week and will post up here. I'm doing it one way or another!
I've seen adaptors that will charge the iPhone and convert the dock connector into an RCA out like this PIE unit and I've seen other adaptors that turn the CD changer port into either a universal USB or RCA in ports like this device. So maybe I'll hook up two of them together to get charging AND music from the iPhone. I'd rather have the simplicity of one thing that get's the job done though.
When Apple unveils the new iPhoneHD in 64GB soon, bye bye iPod!

I have that exact same adapter that I had in my MKIV before I replaced the head unit. From what I know it worked to charge my friends 1st Gen iPhone. PM me and I'll make sure I have all the cables and such if you're interested.

Also according to the USA Spec website you can get a new cable that will support the iPhone 3G and higher on the older PA10-VW that I have.

So, if you have a Blitzsafe adapter, you can also purchase a Blitzsafe BS G2 USB5V cable and plug it into your current adapter. Just a heads up for anyone else looking.

Yes, it does on MKV's. Not sure about MKIV's though. It will control the iPod/iPhone just like the OEM adapter. You can only control through the first 5 playlists and #6 is all your songs. This sucks though. I'd much rather have control in the iPod itself. Actually, I'd love control on the steering wheel to show through the MFA and to be able to browse the entire menu, but there is no adapter for any VW for that function...

You can also get the USA spec adaptor thru sellers on amazon for the same price. This is the adaptor I'm planning to get as it also has an extra aux in Jack which I plan to use for my Sirius receiver.

the one I bought from a stereo shop two years ago in my sedan I could control through my wheel. but did not show names of tracks on the monsoon. I could go through track till i found what i wanted. and i could use the ipod or iphone to control it which gave me the screen to see.

My car is a single DIN 2001. I decided I'm going to combine these two:
http://www.discountcarstereo.com/detail.aspx?ID=169
http://www.discountcarstereo.com/detail.aspx?ID=896

I will NOT be able to:
control the ipod through the factory head unit
keep my factory cd changer connected

I WILL be able to:
play the ipod through the head unit via the cd changer input
charge the ipod or my iphone
plug in other devices using the headphone plug adapter
hide the wiring in the console
sell my cd changer

AND... I ordered this one for my B6 Wagon gasser:

I'll let everyone know how it turns out. It will probably be next week before I get it installed, but I ordered it today.

Get a double din touchscreen stereo with an ipod adapter, add the steering wheel controls, bluetooth, etc. If you want the Pioneer BT901 would be awesome since it includes GPS... or, I got the 4200DVD to allow for expansion in the future. It includes cover art.

Yeah, funds for me go towards a new iPhone instead of a double din touchscreen. I have audio fanatic tendencies so I'm leaving the audio stock. I couldn't *just* add a head unit. I would have to tear the whole interior out, dynamat everything, install 2 massive amps somewhere hidden, a sub or two hidden in some custom fiberglass panels, redo the doors, etc etc etc... LOL.

Plus, and feel free to call me crazy, I like the OE deck. Keeps thieves away and limits attention to the rest of goodies inside the car.

YOU'RE CRAZY! but that's the same reason I kept my factory deck. I have subs, amps and upgraded speakers, but kept the old tape deck!

I have Pioneer Avic D3s in my car and my truck. Both have the Pioneer ipod adapter that worked fine until I got my iphone. I can play the music through the head unit it just wont charge my phone at the same time. There is a new adapter for the iphone to adapt the voltage, but I am not sure it is worth it for me. I leave my old 5th gen ipod in the center console of my car, and I am hoping that I can find another cheap 5th gen ipod to leave in the truck.

Yeah it's a pain to update 3 devices, but I rarely get new music and listen to Sirius most of the time. It is more convenient to me to be able to just leave it in the console all the time so I dont have to remember to swap the ipod from the car to the truck and back.

EDIT: Didn't see mikes post lol. Same issue.

Just thought i'd throw this out there. The problem i have is that how many of these adapters actually charge the iphone.

I have an ipod cable adapter which came w/ my alpine h/u. It charges my ipod just fine. However, the iphone wont charge on it. My friend has a double din gps unit/blue tooth etc that's real nice that he uses w/ his iphone. He has the same issue, the phone simply doesn't want to charge up. But with his occasionally the phone will charge. The other option is to use a headphone jack cable, but audio quality suffers to just one channel i believe...or as in my case only speakers on the right side of the car.

I know there is the option to get the different voltage cable off of ebay. You have to make a secondary connection for power, but it will charge your phone. Of couse then it wont charge your Ipod.

Yeah I was pretty dissapointed that my ipod adapter wouldn't charge my iphone 3GS - it must run at 12V, which makes total sense in a car, obviously.

However I see charging power adapters for as little as $16 on ebay - I might have to jump on one.

Regarding ipod/iphone adapters, this site has a plethora!
http://enfigcarstereo.com/shopsite_sc/store/html/VW_IPOD.html

I bought the PIE VW02/PC-POD2, since it had steering wheel track control but left playlist / artist / album selection up to me on the ipod itself. Don't want to scroll through menus on the monsoon.... Only thing it doesnt have is text display on screen, which at the time I bought my adapter seemed to cost another $80 or so to accomplish - not worth it.

It works great on my iphone other than charging, but it would appear that for $16 I can fix that.

To my knowledge, all "idevices" have always charged at 5V. All dc adapters have always been 5v for all of the different versions. They switched the pin layout on the dock connector on the new iPhones for some odd reason.

I used the new iPhone cable for my Blitzsafe adapter that I got from Enfig for $20. Charges my iPhone 3G (finally)! Just can't wait for the iPhone 4 to drop in about 2 weeks now :) Hopefully it'll fit in my proclipusa holder LOL...

false
old I devices supported both 12 and 5 volt charging (FireWire 12 volt, USB is 5 volt) new devices (after apple gave up on FireWire) only charge via 5 volt and that pin has never changed.

The adapters drop 12 volts to 5 volts and feed it to the 5 volt pin
