Interior lights not going off.

Just began where the interior lights are on and stay on.
They stay on no matter what I try. closing the door, turning on the key, etc.
Only go out with the switch on the center overhead lights.
I changed the drivers door lock modual some months ago. Things were working fine after that.
The door panel lights goes on and off as they should with the door position.
So my question is, does the infamous door light micro switch also send the open/close information
to the CCM? If it does. then I can assume it is not the problem and can look somewhere else.
I've read about poor solder joints in the CCM and bad wires/connections in the center light switch
and in the wiring coming from the door.
Any helpful insights in solving this problem will be greatly appreciated.

Have you checked the wires in the door accordion? Cars are getting old and its increasingly common for the drivers door wires to crack and eventually break being it sees the most use.

Have not checked them yet.
Would I be looking at the wires in the rubber door boot
and maybe the ones down by the drivers foot well.
I might pull the CCM tomorrow and open it up.
Will report back what I find.

Thanks

Well today I spent some hours doing more investigation.
Pulled the CCM out and looked at the circuit board for bad solder joints.
It looked really clean with no obvious problems. Will look more closely with
a magnifying glass later.
Looked at the wire bundle in the door flex elbow and as much of the wiring I
could see coming out of the door. Everything look factory fresh with no signs
of broken wires.
I suspect the next step is to remove the door panel and look that direction.
Anyone have some thoughts on this process?

Thanks
Peter

The door microswitches can cause that, very common failure if you search the forum.
If you are a Golf, check the hatch boots. Another common failure point for the entire CCM system.

Wanted to post a update to this thread.
Yesterday I checked my wiring in all the visable wire bundles including
the wires in the lift gate. Everything looked fine. The rear lid wires were recently repaired.
I also checked fuses 5,6,14,38.
I have read that pulling fuse 14 for 10 min. or more will reset the CCM.
Today I put the CCM unit back under the dash and made sure the connectors were in fully.
I used VCDS to check for faults (none listed) and checked operation of all the door switches.
All seemed to be good. Saw them change state.
With that done I looked at the lights and what they were were now doing.
It seems that I have no light staying on problem and that they turn off when
key is inserted in ignition, turn off after 10 min if door left open and do the fade out thing.
The lights don't go out now with key insertion if the hood is open. Don't remember this before.
So what did I do that might have solved the problem? Pulled fuse 14 and pushed on all the
CCM electrical connectors. Won't say its truely solved until I drive around for some weeks.
Only then I will put the trim panels back on.
Cheers and Happy New Year

I had the opposite problem.
The lights wouldn't turn on.
I unplugged the CCM and when I plugged it back in they worked,.. for a little while.
I might have to clean the pins and contacts better and try again,.. I'll open the CCM up to check the traces too.

When the lights stay on is the door-ajar light on?

It could be another door(switch). When it gets cold and things shrink that's when I've noticed the issue occurs more.

On my driver's door wire bundle. EVERY wire....except 3, the plastic jacket was cracked.....and 2 or 3 of the larger wires were broken and frayed (and touching other wires). You're lucky if your door's wires are all good.

Check for the door ajar light. If it's on, try opening/closing the other doors (that you haven't repaired)

The problem might be the switch in the overhead console/switch itself.

The lights in the headliner above each door also has the ability to be triggered by the CCM on the same circuit, if I'm not mistaken. So if you have those in the position to also come on when commanded by the CCM, but they aren't coming on at the same time as those in the overhead console, then maybe the problem is indeed in the overhead console instead of the CCM.

A follow up ;
Original problem; interior lights came on and stayed on. Would only turn on/ off with overhead switch.
Both front door puddle lights on/off with door.
No faults found with VCDS. All door and lid switches showed working.
All wiring good.
The only two things I did were to remove the CCM and remove fuse 14.
The lights operated normally after they were reinstalled.
So;?
Plug loose on the CCM?
CCM reset after pulling fuse 14?
Will report back if it screws up again.

2013 jetta TDI sport wagon, random marker lights turn on and off. It started with the right rear turn single. I have constant 12V on the plug even with the car locked. this connection still has 12V all the time. Now the other marker lights turn on for a few seconds then off and will switch from one to the other.
