Yesterday I received what appeared to be an advertising holiday card from a local GM dealer. I usually recycle these promptly, but opened it up and found a handwritten card along the lines of "Dear Eric, we really want to buy your 2010 Jetta Sportwagen and have a desperate need for it. Please call me at this number, you will be very impressed with my aggressive offer."

I've never done any business with this dealer, so it struck me as odd that they would even know I have this car. I'm guessing it may just be a sales tactic to try and get me in the dealership so they can push a new vehicle on me. The only thing close to a GM vehicle I've owned is the 1981 Chevy pickup truck I inherited when my grandfather passed away 25 years ago.

Has anyone else received something like this? How would this other dealer know I have the car? Maybe they have some affiliation with the VW dealer where I bought it. Hmm.

They are good at printing a hand written cards...
Look at the back and see if the ball point pen made impressions on the back......
I didn't think so ;)
I get them all the time.. kind of like factory warranty is about to expire. .

Just a sales person fishing for an opportunity to brutalize your bank account. All they are after is a fat payday at your expense.

I got a phone call last summer from the local dealer (not where I bought it but where I have been getting service) wanting to know if I'd be interested in selling or trading. I actually think they wanted the car - then. :)
