I've been reading up about intake manifold cleanings but it looks like its only for the older TDIs and not the MKV's and above? Is this true? How do I check if my IM is gunked up? I also plan to clean my MAF sensor, Im at 140k miles.

manifold cleaning

I have not seen any buildup in the manifold on the BRM like there was on the ALH (2001) so I would say no need to clean, but I suspect I have a plugged EGR cooler on mine as it will chug a bit when engine is cold, and get better when warm.
If you are going to clean your MAF be sure to use the proper cleaner that is MAF safe. I ruined the MAF on my sons gas Beetle trying to clean it with brake cleaner...... lesson learned.... I used a product fro Canadian Tire called Sensor Clean and did not wreck mine YMMV.
