Hammer,

Before I'd buy used, I'd remove the hose near the antishudder valve (right on top of the engine, springlike clamp, I'm not too sure about the PD models. Look at that area. It will quickly tell you the story of the intake with minimal effort.
Thanks, any pics someone can post of "antishudder valve" and the hose that wound be removed for inspection?

Mobe's pic
just gave me heart failure...

WOW! Nice intake. I've seen a few of these myself. Oh and by the way, I'm glad intake cleaning has gotten down to $300. I've been doing them for this price all along. A3\B4\A4\NB etc. Whole job all parts labor and electronic settings. I swap manifolds to save time. I keep one of each and an antishudder all cleaned and ready. I am working on another solution which will make it $150 instead. Stay tuned!

i hope it's that cost for everyone, and not just at my local dealership. i can't imagine they would offer a service no one else is. i asked them about it b/c of the cost others had listed on the site was much more. maybe others haven't priced it in a while?

I charge $175 if anybody wants it done. I've done close to 50 of them now. 6 in my neighborhood alone. And the dealers here in WI get between $700-900 without replacing the EGR.

When you guys are doing the intake cleaning, are there any parts that you replace? I thought the gasket and a few extra bolts was all one needed, but it looks like the dealers are replacing the EGR when they do the cleaning? Is this necessary?

Again can someone post some pic's of "antishudder valve" and the hose that would be removed for inspection of a cloged intake.
As I'm going to look at a low mileage Golf.
Thanks

I'm away from home (no Bentley), and was adding intake-cleaning supplies to my filter order from Brian Harrison...

I was going to order just the gasket and a couple of bolts, but he asked me if I also wanted a set of EGR gaskets...

Should I be ordering these as well, or just do the "basic" cleaning?? My car doesn't behave as if it has a clogged intake, but at 212,000 km (2003), I figure it's due sometime this summer...

Take a look at this link.

Look at the second picture. You have to take off hose "E", to look into EGR "C". The antishudder valve is labled "D".

I drive my '03 HARD once warm. Now I am sitting at about 61k miles and the only performance issue I have is a dying MAF and a lazy N75 valve. The turbo lag on my TDI has gone from non existent to about the turbo lag of a 1.8T.

I think oil choice has alot to do with intake clogging as well. Since factory fille I have been running Delvac 1 5W-40 (except for one interval of Rotella T 5W-40).
