I haven't. I am on my way out now but I can try to do it later today. I will update here if I find time today to post over there.

Finally got it to work - Non VCDS Way.

Since the VCDS way of installing the rear puddle lights dint work out well., I went the route of tapping the -ve switched from doors micro switch which send the door status to the ECU.

Setup was simple., just tapped the constant +12v from the window motor connection (the big fat red wires) and the -12 (switched) from the door lock harness.

Best part is no need for coding via VCDS., its a straight forward install. Eventhough you have to splice the wires. i ended up using those little wire tap clips from Autozone.

Attached below are some pics of the install.

Wow! Awesome job! Thanks for sharing your install with us. Now I just gotta build up the courage to start taking things apart lol. I should first order the housings, lenses and bulbs from Bold Sport. I do love their lights in my front doors. Super bright!

Nice job! Easy way to get puddle lights. I checked the schematics, and it is the #5 pin on the passenger door with black wire w/ green stripe but indicates the #2 pin on the driver's side with a black with gray stripe. For the power, it is shows a red with black stripe wire on the passenger side, although there appears to be a possibility of a red w/ yellow stripe or a red with black stripe on the drivers side. Thought that it may be 'easier' to open the main harness at the central junction and tap into the circuits there, rather than running new wires to the extreme ends of the doors. Plus I would solder and tape rather than use mechanical fasteners, especially if the door clips are prone to breaking when removed. But that's just me. This is an easy mod that will allow others to duplicate it.

Brilliant!!! This is great news. Thanks for the write-up

Quick question, are there any helpful tips you can give for removing the door panel? I tried briefly to get it loose but ran out of time. When I ordered the new puddle lights I also ordered 10 new retainers so I am ready to break some :D

You just need some patience and a lot of elbow grease to remove the door panel. especially on those clips.

Make sure you have some kind of trim removal tool. I got mine from Harbor Frieght tools here in US.

This is what I used -

1. Remove the Red Plastic reflectors, right under it, there is a plastic screw. turn it counter clock 1/4 turn to loosen it. (See Pic)

2. To pull out or wiggle the panel by pulling it outward.

3. With the help of the removal tool and flash light, access the clips on the sides and pop each one of them out. As much as i can. You can loosen most of them except the one in middle (See Pic)

4. Once post of them are loosened, pull the panel out.
Note: Panel should be pulled out from the bottom side, once that is loose., wiggle it upwards to slide it from the top.

5. While the panel is loose, remove the wire harnesses and the door release cable., which is simple enough.

This is a great and easy mod!
Thanks to "o_a_ravi" and "vw norm" for making it so easy for the rest of us.

All the wires where in the exact positions mentioned and with the specified colors.

The only drawback to doing it this way that I've found is that when all doors are opened, all interior lights and the four door warning lights illuminate.
After a few moments all interiors and the front door warning lights fade off, but the rears will remain illuminated.

Very minor drawback if you can even call it one.

Thank again

Ok this sounds promising was wanting to do this myself, but one question, because I missed the answer or didnt read the posr right.
How do these turn on ? when you open the door ?

Oh and has anybody tried the ones with the laser logos ? ebay link

Thanks
Hi all,

I realize this is an older post and I am way behind. I do have the VW Logo puddle lights for front and back. They look awesome and still illuminate the door area as well! They must have a timer of sort built in though because they will turn off after a few minutes when the door is left open.

The way I got them installed, the rears always come on when either front door is being opened. Same is true for my illuminated door sills. :/

This question remained unanswered I believe. They way the wiring is being described in the previous posts, would this allow for only the puddle light of the door being opened to come on? Or do the front doors trigger the rears as well?
Sorry for being a dummy here and digging up an ancient post.

The way I've wired mine (which is following the instructions in posts #'s 33, 35, 37&38) the light will come on for each rear door only when that door is opened. Nothing is linked to or controlled by the front doors at all.

However if all doors are open for a few minutes causing the interior lights and the front doors to fade off the rear doors (and only the rears) will then stay illuminated. They do not fade off with the rest. This is the only difference between a factory install and what is described (and what I've done) that I can find.

For the record I used OEM door warning lights and connecting wires and this still occurs when wiring in this way.

I'm very pleased with this mod and would recommend it to anyone interested.
