Installing Pedal set

Has anybody ever installed the aluminum pedal set? The dead pedal and brake pedal are self explanatory, they're just covers, but I need advice on the accelerator. It actually replaces the entire unit, which of course means you have to unplug the old one and plug the new one in. It says in the instructions that this MUST be done by a dealer for safety and to insure that it is calibrated correctly and functions properly. Is this true, or is this VW's way of getting more revenue from their service departments?

Another question, I notice on the new accelerator, there is a little button on the bottom that when pushed all the way to the floor, you can feel it click, and release when you let off. I notice on the factory pedal, I can also feel this button if I am at wide open throttle. What is this for???

It's a "kickdown" switch for the Automatic (DSG) transmission. This button is not on manual tranny cars. It just tells the transmission to downshift when you floor the go pedal.

Have Fun!

P.S. You will need to buy (or make) a special tool to remove the accelerator pedal. There are two little holes in base and the tool is inserted into those holes to unlock the pedal assembly from the floor.

That's weird, because I know for a fact it down shifts even at half throttle.

Ok, so I'll see about the special tool...what about re-programming?? Any ideas? Required or not?

It downshifts whenever it wants to, but the "kickdown" switch forces a downshift. It's just the way VW designed it.

I doubt that any programing changes are necessary. You are just replacing one VW pedal with another. Their electrical performance should be the same.

Have Fun!

I'm wanting to get the same for my TDI, let me know how it goes and any tips that will help.
Hope the install goes good for you with no dealer help needed.

I will update once I tackle the job...maybe tomorrow, but looks like it may be difficult without the special release tool.

I see, $12 isn't much but it's waiting for it to arrive that's worse. I mod Xbox's and i had to buy a special tool for that...it was impossible to do with out breaking it.
